Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Preview: Oil City Cup at Castrol Raceway

Edmonton, AB- August 20, 2008- For the second consecutive season, the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will venture north of the border to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for the Oil City Cup Presented by Boston Pizza on Friday, August 22 and Saturday, August 23. Two full nights of racing are in store at the state-of-the-art semi-banked 3/8-mile. After two events were rained out at Ohsweken Speedway earlier this season, this will mark the only two events in Canada this season for the World of Outlaws.

In the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series debut at the track last season, 20-time series champion Steve Kinser picked up the win, leading all 35 laps. The following night it was two-time defending series champion Donny Schatz picking up the victory to put his name in the record books as just the fourth driver to win a World of Outlaws event in Canada.

Kinser is the only driver that has competed in all eight of the previous event for the series in Canada, dating back to 1981. The native of Bloomington, Indiana has won six times this season, including last Saturday night on a 3/8-mile at Dacotah Speedway in Mandan, North Dakota in the series debut at the track. He is currently fifth in points, on the strength of 31 Top-10 finishes. He finished fourth in the finale at Castrol Raceway last season.

Schatz finished third in the opener at the track last season and followed that up with the win. The North Dakota native recently won his third consecutive Knoxville Nationals and leads the World of Outlaws with 12 A-Feature wins, including four on 3/8-mile tracks. He remains the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in all 43 A-Feature events this season as he chases his third consecutive series title.

Jason Meyers, who is currently second in the World of Outlaws championship standings finished fifth on both nights of the Oil City Cup last season. He leads the series with 35 Top-Five finishes this season, and also leads the series with eight fast time honors in qualifying. He has won seven A-Feature events, including on Sunday night at Nodak Speedway in Minot, North Dakota as he chases his first career series title.

Craig Dollansky finished third in the finale of the Oil City Cup last season, after turning in a very solid seventh-place performance in the opener. The native of Elk River, Minnesota has won seven times this season and is third in points. He leads the series in laps led, having paced the field for 284 circuits.

Joey Saldana, who won the series most recent event at Billings Motorsports Park in Billings, Montana, on Tuesday night finished second and fourth at Castrol Raceway last season. He led a number of laps in the finale. The second generation driver has won three times this season is currently fourth in points.

Jac Haudenschild picked up a Top-10 finish in the opener of the Oil City Cup last season. The veteran driver from Wooster, Ohio has 32 Top-10 finishes this season as he continues to close in on his first win of the season. He is in the midst of his first season behind the wheel for the Carnahan Motorsports team.

Chad Kemenah, the 2006 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner will be making his debut at Castrol Raceway after missing the two events at the track last season, after he has suffered a severe concussion a week and a half prior to the event. He recently moved into the seventh spot in points, on the strength of 25 Top-10 finishes, with nine of those being Top-Fives.

Kerry Madsen, the reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year won heat races on both nights of the Oil City Cup last season. The native of St. Mary's, NSW, Australia has 27 Top-10 finishes this season as he chases his first win of the season.

Daryn Pittman was ninth in the finale at Castrol Raceway last season, and heads to the track this season riding a strong wave of consistency that has been following him since he won the Kings Royal last month. He has four wins on the season and is ninth in points on the strength of 22 Top-10 finishes.

Shane Stewart used a podium finish on Tuesday night at Billings Motorsports Park to move back into the Top-10 in points. He has one win this season, to go along with 21 Top-10 finishes. He will be making his debut at Castrol Raceway this weekend.

Terry McCarl was battling for the lead last season in the opener at Castrol Raceway before getting caught up in an accident in lapped traffic. He picked up his 17th Top-10 finish of the season on Tuesday night in Billings, as he too closes in on his first win of the 2008 campaign. The native of Altoona, Iowa is just nine points out of the Top-10 in the standings.

Sam Hafertepe Jr. finished 10th in the finale of the Oil City Cup last season, during his rookie season with the World of Outlaws. The native of Sunnyvale, Texas has 12 Top-10 finishes this season as he seeks his first career World of Outlaws win.

Jason Sides will make his second trip to Castrol Raceway this weekend. The 2003 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year is one of just four drivers in the 30-year history of the World of Outlaws that has won in Canada, as he was victorious at Ohsweken Speedway last year.

Kraig Kinser, the son of 20-time series champion Steve Kinser will make be making his debut at Castrol Raceway on Friday, August 22. The 2004 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year finishes a season-best third on Sunday night at Nodak Speedway in North Dakota as he continues his first season driving for Tony Stewart Racing.

Tony Bruce Jr. made his debut at Castrol Raceway last season during his rookie season with the World of Outlaws. The native of Liberal, Kansas who won his first career World of Outlaws A-Feature event at 34 Raceway in Iowa last month picked up his third Top-Five finish of the season at Billings Motorsports Park on Tuesday night.

Chad Hillier, who is also in his sophomore season with the World of Outlaws, has made three starts in his career at Castrol Raceway, earning a best finish of fourth in 1998. The native of Burlington, Washington has five Top-10 finishes this season.

Lucas Wolfe, who is in his first season on the road full-time with the World of Outlaws will be making his first trip to Canada to race this weekend. The native of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania recently returned to action after sustaining a back injury in June.

Paul McMahan set fast time on the opening night of the Oil City Cup last season and finished eighth in that event. He was also running strong in the finale when he lost a tire. He has nine Top-10 finishes this season as he chases his first win of the year.

What to look for at Castrol Raceway: * The Oil City Cup will continue a string of events on 3/8-mile tracks for the World of Outlaws. There have been seven drivers win races on tracks that size this season.

* Donny Schatz, the two-time defending series champion who won at the track last season leads the series with 12 A-Feature wins this season, including four on 3/8-mile tracks. He is the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in all 43 events this season.

* Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion won the inaugural event at Castrol Raceway last season, and is the only driver in the 30-year history of the series that has a race in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
