Meyers Gains Ground in World of Outlaws Championship Standings
Minot, ND- August 18, 2008-Jason Meyers used his seventh A-Feature win of the season on Sunday night at Nodak Speedway in Minot, North Dakota, to gain ground on two-time defending series champion Donny Schatz. Meyers, who is in the midst of a string of 15 consecutive Top-Five finishes, cut Schatz's lead to 115 markers. Meyers leads the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series with 34 Top-Five finishes, as he chases his first series title.
Schatz finished fourth on Sunday night at Nodak Speedway, and remains the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in every single event this season. The North Dakota native leads the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series with 12 A-Feature wins as he chases his third consecutive title and has 33 Top-Five finishes.
Craig Dollansky finished second on Saturday night at Dacotah Speedway and also on Sunday night to remain a very solid third in the standings. The native of Elk River, Minnesota has 37 Top-10 finishes this season, to go along with seven A-Feature wins.
Joey Saldana remains fourth in points, with 20-time champion Steve Kinser, using a win on Saturday night and a Top-10 run on Sunday night to close to within 23 points of him in the standings. Saldana has 32 Top-10 finishes on the season, while Kinser has finished in the Top-10 30 times.
Jac Haudenschild picked up his 14th Top-Five finish of the season on Saturday night in the World of Outlaws debut at Dacotah Speedway and remains sixth in points.
Kerry Madsen finished fifth on Sunday night to take sole position of seventh in the standings, after he and Chad Kemenah began the night tied for the spot. The reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has 27 Top-10 finishes this season as he closes in on his first win of the year. Kemenah finished sixth at Nodak Speedway to earn his 25th Top-10 finish and is just three points behind Madsen.
Daryn Pittman finished sixth at Dacotah Speedway on Saturday night and remains solidly in the ninth spot in points, on the strength of 21 Top-10 finishes.
Terry McCarl used his 16th Top-10 finish of the season on Sunday night to move back into the 10th spot in the standings, five markers ahead of Shane Stewart who picked up 20th Top-10 finish of the season.
