Jason Meyers, Elite Racing, Suffer a Good Run of Bad Luck

CLOVIS, Calif. (July 29, 2007) – After Coming off of a much-needed victory at Lebanon Valley Speedway, World of Outlaws (WoO) driver Jason Meyers and the Elite Racing, Primerica Financial, Elite Landscaping, GLR Investments, Team Worldwide, Carbon Raptor DLC, Ridgeline Framing Maxim Chassis with Garrett Racing Engines power was ready to make the trek north of the border to the Ohsweken Speedway near London, Ontario, followed by the Outlaws' lone race in Michigan at I-96 Speedway and a visit to KC Raceway in Chillicothe, Ohio.

SINCE WHEN DO MAPLE LEAVES BITE?

Visiting Ohsweken Speedway for the first time, Meyers had heard a lot of things about the high-banked 3/8 mile racetrack, owned by 360 c.i. sprint car driver, Glenn Styres.

"Coming into Canada, we had no idea what to expect, other than what we have heard from people," said Meyers.  "The track was fast, the promoter was awesome and the fans were great—I really wouldn't mind coming back for a two-day show next year," finished Meyers.

Meyers would qualify eleventh, run third in his heat and line up fifteenth in the A-Main event.  On lap three, Meyers would go for a wild ride, and had Styres not installed a new fence around the facility, Meyers would have ended up in the promoter's living room, as Styers lives right off of turn two.

"We are starting to run low on wings in the trailer, as we have had a rough couple of weeks," noted Meyers.  "I guess it's a good thing that we are going back to our Midwest shop this week before heading north to Beaver Dam (Charter Raceway Park in Beaver Dam, Wisc.)."

To add to Meyers' bad luck in Canada, shortly after crossing the border, his Chevrolet Tahoe, which he tows behind his motor home, was stolen.

"They still haven't found the Tahoe—I've pretty much given up hope on it," said Meyers.  "It just added to the bad luck that we had over there."

LONE TRIP TO THE GREAT LAKES STATE

Pulling into I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan, Meyers knew it would be a "Watch the Weather" day, as there was a large cell that appeared to be moving straight for the race track.  The weather would end up hitting the next town east of the track, and I-96 Speedway would not get a single drop of rain.

A sixteenth-place qualifying effort would line Meyers up on the pole of the fourth heat, where he would finish second, giving him a spot in the Crane Cams Dash.  The results of the Dash determine the starting order for the A-Main event.

Finishing fourth in the Dash, Meyers was forced to use all three lines during the A-Main event to work through lapped traffic.  Lapped traffic was allowing Meyers to catch race leaders Craig Dollansky and Danny Lasoski, but a late race caution would move the lapped traffic to the rear of the field, which took away Meyers' chances of winning.

"We needed that lapped traffic, because we were catching those guys," said Meyers.  "I'm really happy with a third place run tonight—the guys worked really hard to get us turned around after wrecking in Canada."

COULD KC RACEWAY BE A MOMENTUM BUILDER?

Making the 350 mile drive from I-96 to KC Raceway, Meyers had a lot of time to reflect on his win at the high-banked 3/8 mile oval that came in 2004.

"I've been to victory lane here, have raced here several times, and I really like this place," said Meyers before the racing event that culminated an eight race stretch in eleven days.

Qualifying eighth out of forty-eight cars, Meyers would gain two positions in his heat race, finishing third, which would line him up twelfth for the A-Main event.

Running eighth when a caution came out, Meyers would realize he had a tire going down on the restart, forcing him to bring out a caution and make a visit to the work area.  Lining up twenty-first on the ensuing restart, Meyers would only be able to pass three cars en route to an eighteenth place finish.

"Very frustrating because we had a top-five car tonight," said Meyers.  "DJ (Lindsey) and Brian (Bloomfield) did a great job of getting me back out on the racetrack.  It's great having the confidence in the guys and knowing that is not something that I have to worry about every time I hit the racetrack."
