Brown cruises to 13th feature event of the year at Placerville, looks to lock title this week

By Bill Sullivan

PLACERVILLE, CA – (8-16-08) – NevadaCity’s Dan Brown Jr. continued his domination of victory lane at Placerville Speedway Saturday night.  Brown drove his way to his unprecedented 13th Pro Stock feature event aboard his Dan Brown Sr. #5x Dirtworks Chevy Impala. Brown has now claimed victory of all but one feature event this year, his third season in the division.

‘It feels pretty good to have the new record for the most wins in a year in the divison,” said Brown. “This year has been pretty incredible. We set out to win the championship and I never quite expected we would win like we have. I have to really thank my dad, my whole family and all my sponsors for their support. Next week we’ll come back here and hopefully we can wrap up this championship a week early.

Brown will undoubtedly wrap up the season title in his next appearance at Placerville Speedway. Following his success Saturday night, he maintains a 92 point lead over veteran driver Dennis Armstrong. When the green flag falls in his heat race in the coming week, Brown will officially clinch the title.

Saturday night, Brown started eighth in the field for the 15-lap feature event. With just four laps down in the race the second generation division Rookie of the Year had charged his way up to the fourth position. One lap later he edged into the top three position and with nine laps down had moved into second place behind early race leader Forryst Carnett of Placerville

After pursuing Carnett on a very dry slick track for two laps, Brown moved into the lead on lap 11. Carnett entered the fourth turn of the track and lost traction, sliding sideways in front of Brown, who attempted to brake and avoid a serious collision but made unavoidable contact with Carnett as he slid to the infield of the race track.

“I had to come from the middle of the field tonight, it was really a lot of fun,” added Brown. “Forryst and I we having a good race for the lead. When he slid sideways I tried to avoid best I could but I was already too close. This is my last year in this car and I am looking to move to another division next year so I am hoping to pick something up soon.”

Saturday night, Dan Brown Jr.’s fasted lap of the night took place on the second lap of the feature. On that circuit, Brown turned a lap time of 15:799 seconds on an extremely dry slick track.

Dan Brown Junior would like to thank his sponsors for the 2008 racing season. Among the supporters of the #5x Pro Stock are Performance Auto Supply, Swepco Lubricants, Burneys Auto Repair, Bobby Brown Construction, Brown Bear Incorporated and his dad, Dan Brown Senior.
