The Alex Pruett Memorial Race will take place on Wednesday, August 13th at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana. The race is a tribute to the young driver who passed away before his time last September at the age of 20.
Alex's parents, Steve and Paula will be announcing a $1500 scholarship fund in his name that will help further his dream of helping other young drivers pursue their life's goals. The winner will be based on accomplishments in and out of racing and how the driver intends on using the scholarship to chase their own dreams.
The driver with the most positions gained during the race will be awarded a bonus $250 and a trophy with Alex's name and his No. 56. The purse will also be increased $1500 for the race to be divided pro rata over the field.
A banner with Alex's name and picture will hang at the start/finish line.
"Alex was hugely popular among his fellow drivers, the memorial race was driven by his peers, as a way to remember Alex," said Eric Bunn USAC series coordinator. "What is unique about this series is that these kids start driving when they are 12 years old. Alex was a role model to all of the younger kids. He was full of life, energy, and he just loved to race."
"I have been doing this for 45 years and working with Alex was one of the most rewarding, and fun experiences in a long time because of Alex's personality and great attitude. I am glad to have been a part of his racing career," said Jim Rieder, Alex's crew chief.
Friends of Alex are encouraged to come out and to remember and honor the young driver this Wednesday night.
