Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Preview: I-96 Speedway

Lake Odessa, MI- July 23, 2008-- A very busy week continues for the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series with The Rumble in Michigan on Friday, July 25 at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan.

The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series has competed at the half-mile seven times dating back to 1995. Craig Dollansky won the most recent event at the track last season, as he charged past 2001 series champion Danny Lasoski on the 16th lap of the event and led the rest of the way in the 25-lap contest to earn $10,000.

Steve Kinser, the 20-time series champion who recently won the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway in Pennsylvania leads the series with three wins at the half-mile. In his career in the state of Michigan, the native of Bloomington, Indiana has 11 A-Feature wins. He begins a busy stretch of racing to wrap up the month of July with 546 career A-Feature wins, and is currently fifth in the championship standings.

Joey Saldana earned his first career World of Outlaws A-Feature win in 1995 at I-96 Speedway, holding off Kinser for the victory. The second generation driver finished sixth at the track last season and has won twice this season, including on a half-mile at Eldora Speedway last weekend. Driving for NASCAR star Kasey Kahne, Saldana is fourth in points, just 12 markers out of the third position.

Donny Schatz, the two-time defending series champion was running fourth last season at I-96 Speedway with just three laps remaining when he had a tire go down. It was one of just four races in which he did not finish in the Top-10. This season he has 11 A-Feature wins and is the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in all 33 events, as he chases his third consecutive series title. He is in the midst of his first season driving for two-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart's team.

Jason Meyers, who is currently second in World of Outlaws points finished third at I-96 Speedway last season. The California native has won six times this season, including three times on half-mile tracks, at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida, Manzanita Speedway in Arizona and Virginia Motor Speedway. He has finished in the Top-10 29 times this year as he chases his first series title.

Also in action at the Rumble in Michigan will be veteran Jac Haudenschild of Ohio, who has four wins during his career in the state of Michigan. He was 10th at I-96 Speedway last season. The veteran driver has 23 Top-10 finishes this season and is just outside of the Top-Five in the series standings.

Kerry Madsen, the reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year looks for his first win of the season as he heads to I-96. The native of St. Mary's, NSW, Australia has racked up 21 Top-10 finishes through the first 33 events this season. Prior to the 2008 campaign, he returned to the Vermeer Motorsports team, for whom he drove when he won the Knoxville Raceway track championship in 2005.

Chad Kemenah, the 2006 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has one win in Michigan during his career and also is closing in on his first World of Outlaws victory of 2008, as he continues his first full season behind the wheel of the No. 8K for the Hard 8 Racing team. The native of Findlay, Ohio has 19 Top-10 finishes this season, with six of those being Top-Five performances, including a third-place run last Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.

Shane Stewart, the World of Outlaws top rookie in 2005, has had several strong runs in the state of Michigan during his career. He has won once this season on a half-mile, with that coming at Knoxville Raceway in Iowa. He is currently ninth in points, on the strength of 16 Top-10 finishes.

Daryn Pittman recently won the $50,000 Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway to earn his first victory of 2008, and followed that up with a win at Williams Grove Speedway last Friday night. He just moved into the Top-10 in points, on the strength of 15 Top-10 finishes.

Terry McCarl has been close to winning a race in Michigan a number of times in his career and looks to accomplish that on Friday, July 25 at I-96 Speedway. The veteran driver is just one point out of the Top-10 in the series standings and has 12 Top-10 finishes this season.

Sam Hafertepe Jr. made his first start at I-96 Speedway last season. The sophomore driver from Sunnyvale, Texas has 11 Top-10 finishes this season as he continues to chase his first career World of Outlaws win.

Kraig Kinser will make his first start at I-96 Speedway since 2005. The third generation driver and son of 20-time series champion Steve Kinser has six Top-10 finishes this season.

Jason Sides, the 2003 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner heads to I-96 Speedway solidly in the Top-15 in points. The native of Bartlett, Tennessee has five Top-10 finishes this season.

Tony Bruce Jr. and Chad Hillier will make their second visits to I-96 Speedway on Friday, July 23, as they continue their sophomore seasons with the World of Outlaws.

Paul McMahan competed at I-96 Speedway last season and has made a couple of starts at the track in his career. He has nine Top-10 finishes this season, including seven since joining the Parsons Motorsports team last month.

Lucas Wolfe, the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award this season will miss the event as he continues to recover from a back injury sustained last month.

2007 Race Recap: Craig Dollansky earned his first win with veteran crew chief Mike Woodring turning the wrenches for his team.

Dollansky won the Crane Cams Dash to earn the pole position for the 30-lap A-Feature. Danny Lasoski used a good start to dive low into the first turn and take the lead. He quickly extended that lead, though it was negated at the halfway point of the race, when the yellow flag flew.

On the ensuing restart, Dollansky looked to the low side of Dollansky in the first turn, but could not quite make the pass stick and Lasoski continued to lead. The yellow flew again the next lap and this time on the restart, Dollansky went to the high side of Lasoski exiting the second turn and took the lead as he powered down the back straightaway.

Lasoski had a sizeable advantage in the first half of the race until the first caution flew on the 15th lap. He had weaved his way through traffic and at most times kept a car between himself and Dollansky.

After trying the low side on a restart, Dollansky knew that he would have to move up the track a bit to find a way to challenge Lasoski. Neither gave an inch when Dollansky battled with Lasoski wheel-to-wheel.

Lasoski led the first 15 laps of the event and finished second. In the final 10 laps, he closed to within a couple of car lengths of Dollansky, but could not quite get a run on him.

Jason Meyers finished third. He closed to within a couple of car lengths of Lasoski late in the race, as he bid for the runner-up spot.

Jason Solwold was fourth, with Rob Chaney rounding out the Top-Five.
