Grubaugh Grabs ASCS Sprints on Dirt Win at Ionia Free Fair T.J. Buffenbarger, IONIA, Mich. (July 18, 2008) – Ryan Grubaugh knew that he would like the Ionia Fairgrounds Speedway the first time he laid eyes on it. Grubaugh, from St. Johns, Michigan, used his front row starting position and pushed his car to the point of overheating to win the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz feature event on Friday night. Grubaugh made the victory a family affair after his cousin Nicole was named queen of this year’s free fair and joined Ryan in victory lane. “The track was really nice, this was a lot of fun,” said Grubaugh in victory lane. “The car was absolutely perfect. I need to thank my Dad and my crew for all the help they give me.” Dain Naida and Grubaugh started on the front row for the 20-lap feature event. Grubaugh jumped into the lead. Meanwhile mid-pack Dustin Daggett, Tim Norman, Ben Rutan, and several other drivers blasted through the pack heading towards the front. The feature’s only caution occurred on lap four when Joe Bares came to a stop on the backstretch. Bares retired from the event. Gubaugh continued to pull away from the rest of the field with Robinson in hot pursuit. Daggett ended up catching Robinson with just two laps to go, but could not overcome Grubaugh’s full straightaway advantage. Rutan made a daring move at the end of the race to move up to third with Robinson and Brett Mann rounding out the top five.
