Schatz Returns to Top Spot in National Speed Sport News Power Rankings; World of Outlaws Late Model Series Star Josh Richards Cracks Poll
Concord, NC- July 2, 2008-After extending his winning streak to three events this past weekend, with victories at River Cities Speedway in his home state of North Dakota, as well as at Cedar Lake Speedway in Wisconsin, Donny Schatz moved into the top spot in the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings this week.
The two-time defending Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion has nine A-Feature wins this season to bring his career total to 79. He is just two wins shy of breaking into the Top-Five on the series all-time win list.
Schatz, who holds a 96-point lead over Jason Meyers in the championship standings, as he chases his third consecutive Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series title, is the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in all 24 A-Feature events this season through June 29. He wrapped up the month of June with six wins, which is the most he has ever had in a single month with the World of Outlaws during his career.
Schatz began the season on top of the National Speed Sport News Power Rankings and remained there for the first five weeks of the 2008 campaign, after finishing last season on top of the weekly poll.
After winning at Cornwall Motor Speedway in Canada and Canandaigua Speedway in New York, during the Great Northern Tour last week, World of Outlaws Late Model Series star Josh Richards made his debut in the Power Rankings this week in the 10th spot. The West Virginia native is second in points, just 30 markers out of the lead in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series championship standings.
The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series begins a busy Fourth of July weekend on Thursday at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota, followed by a return to Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas on Saturday, July 5 and a stop at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana on Sunday, July 6.
