Herrera Hauls in ASCS Rocky Mountain Prelim at Hollywood Hills
Lonnie Wheatley, SAN FELIPE PUEBLO, N.M. (June 27, 2008) – Johnny Herrera racked up his third American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region victory of the season by topping Friday night's 25-lap feature at Hollywood Hills Speedway. Starting the feature event inside the second row, Herrera wasted little time disposing of front row starters Jody Williams and Jerry Brey as he snared the lead on the opening round. Herrera survived several cautions in the early laps and then distanced himself from early chaser Chad Corken en route to taking his eighth career ASCS Rocky Mountain Region victory by nearly a straightaway margin. Rick Ziehl crossed the stripe second, with Scott Box taking the show position. James High raced from 15th to finish fourth, with Tim West rounding out the top five. Corken maintained a slim point lead by finishing sixth, one position ahead of chief title contender Derrik Ortega, who advanced a dozen positions from his 19th starting position. Colt Treharn raced from 17th to eighth, with Jeff Heffner and Billy Page completing the top ten. Brey, Box, Ziehl and Dustin Hall topped heat race action for Friday night's 30-car field, with Treharn winning the "B" Main.
