Boy I knew this was coming - yeah LOT'S of people never change and you Nelli are among them. I know that Sammy's been nice to you. I know Sammy's been nice to a lot of people AND I know that he actually has a great - albeit DRY - sense of humor. It's all about perception and the MAJORITY of people who aren't fortunate enough to see the Sammy in those private moments DON'T see what you see. You also know that he doesn't care. We know he doesn't either.

People have their oppinions of you, me, and so-on and so-on. It's just the way it is. Some people have negative oppinions of me and that's fine - most are justified - and I'll admit it I do care a little. BUT I'm not a racecar driver or public persona of any kind. More than anything I'm just a fan with an oppinion who gets to sell calendars once a year and write every now and then. The point is NOBODY looks up to me, NOBODY wants my autograph, and - for the most part - the things that I've done that would cause someone to have a negative oppinion HAVE NOT happened in front of thousands of people. Call me an asshole - that's fine - in fact get the headstone made now. I spend every day, though, making sure that noone can ever call me a hypocrite.

Ray, read my post a little more slowly. Sammy has the greatest record of anyone to ever race at the Chili Bowl and that is undeniable. And there was about 10,000 people there not 25,000 so get a clue!

The same anti-Sammy people who for the most part don't know the man AT ALL post the same crap they've been posting for years, some things never change. The big difference is that I've been fortunate enough to spend time with him away from the track for many years and while I don't always agree with his on track tactics his off track behavior has been top shelf during my time spent with him.

Sammy could win the Nobel Peace Prize and the same few haters would still be jealous and angry but to be honest who cares. The mentality of the anti Sammy fan is what I would really question. Do you peeps say the same things about other people you watch compete and don't know or have never had a conversation with? Methinks he has just beat your driver a few too many times over the years. Sammy is a competitor and sometimes that is his biggest fault so let yee who has not sinned cast the first stone, okay? Let's not forget that envy and anger are two of the Seve Deadly Sins so you guys are in trouble already. Take It Easy.....

Excuse me for stating the attendance that they announced.

You will never get it, will you?

So the guy is nice to you. That's what you gotta go with then.

He was never nice to me!!!   Turned my son (the one you were nice enough to give many pictures too, and he still has them hanging in his room) away from getting his autogragh. The only one to this day to ever do it! I know what your going to say: He was having a bad day: He was busy: You can come up with every excuse in the book. Fact is he was rude. He was dropping of a box of shirts to his novelty stand. Not many people around, first thing in the morning. I know that he owes my son nothing, and doesn't have to sign anything if he does not want too. But i also get to have my opinion of him. And my opinion of him is that he is a Total a-hole on the track. And a Semi A-hole off the track (i never had dinner with the guy or anything so i cant make him a total A-hole of the track)!

You are correct-  He has the greatest record of any driver @ the Chili Bowl. The guy can drive his ass off when he wants to. No disputing that. To bad he cant control his emotions a little better and act like the professional that you claim him to be. I have only been to 1 Chili Bowl. And Sammy was diffently the most unprofessional guy racing. The way he acted, i thought maybe Kevin was in the car. At least he could use his age as a reason for his lack of professionalism.

You have your opinion, I have mine. And by the way- Sammy has no class- i would never envy a guy like that!!!!!

Calendar, you are as real and honest as anyone I ever met in the sport and were a true breath of fresh air. Had we not lived so far apart I think we would have had a blast travellin' around with the Outlaws back in the day.

I, like you don't really care what people say about my thoughts and they're comments aren't ever going to get me to change mine. Years ago this board was full of people being anti-someone, McCarl, Sammy, Wolfgang, beadie, etc etc. Some were kids who didn't like a driver because their Dad didn't, some were jealous, some saw the 'bad' guy beat their favorite driver too much, some even had a valid reason, like Raz.

My point about Sammy is the same one I made defending Stewart and McCarl and others over the years that I have. Like the rest of us on the planet they have made errors at work that pi$$ed off some people, c'est la vie, we all have. What is wrong is to then blanket them with comments that are for the most part totally incorrect, especially when making personality opinions. If you have never said more than hello or can I have your autorgraph to someone don't try to tell me what they are all about. If you've spent time in the real world with any of these guys then you just might have some credibility factors on your side, but likely none of you have, hence it's just hearsay and wives tales and general BS. I spent years with these guys and saw the good, bad and ugly in all of them and there was lots of the former and not much of the latter for the most part. Don't let a few actions as bad as they seem condemn a person for life unless you are as Saintly as to have never done something as stupid in your world. Have a great weekend, go BEARS, Take It Easy....

PS I don't think that Sammy has wanted to be at the Chili Bowl since the year he made the run through the alphabet and broke and broken parts have always frustrated Sammy the most over the years, Amy can you confirm this, lol..... In my ten years there the loudest cheer I ever heard was when Sammy was leaving the track after making the run through the alphabet...

You know I love you Nelli :-). First time I got to go to Udders (then Rubes) was with you 11 years ago. I loved your better half but we both know why that didn't work out. One of my favorite lines when I get frustrated about some of the choices I have made and am around racing people is "well if I had done what I really wanted I'd be living out of a van on the road full time like Nelligan." I say that ENVIOUSLY if you can believe that. There-in lies the mutual respect we have for eachother: We both respect the other's choices. You stuck to your guns and have MANY "experiences of a lifetime". Some day we'll sit down and start writing the book :-). Anybody want to negotiate a book deal or have suggestions for the title? Perhaps I will live long enough and get to spend a season or two on the road full time. My goal was to do the whole WoO tour before I turned 30. I just turned 36 last weekend and responsibility / reality is just something I've never been able to turn away from. The people who do what you have done - you know who you are - and made racing your life are better for it. No regrets. For the most part I don't have any either. You guys have just had a lot more FUN!

How many posts on this thread about Sammy? It's always been this way about one driver or another since the first flag dropped. It's not all bad,in fact it's a good thing a lot of the time and adds to the excitement except when it gets to personal and just plain out of line nasty and uninformed. I've found that these same type of people complain and bitch about everything. I've sat next to people that to shut em up I've just plan asked them why in the hell they even came!

I have my list of drivers I don't care for but it's usually because of bush league slide jobs (Gardener) that show more aggression than skill or something along that line. I think that's because that when I was a kid, before cages I learn'd how it was supposed to be done from my dad and other survivors of those day's. I'm only 58 but grew up at the track and those boys were tough. In the old day's that kid might have been decked, not slapped. I know times have changed and some driving that was just not acceptable in the past is the norm now, specially in a event like the Chili bowl but damn I sure appreciate seeing smart driving and a clean but hair raising pass ,on a fast track.

Kenny

Yeah, I know,be my guest....

Calendar Chris, I tried to start writing the book and I had Dave Argabright's agreement to oversee it and help as well. However, the big problem was the actual dates of the events and heppenings over that dozen years, I never kept good enough records and the accuracy side may have been tainted which I couldn't accept. I will simply take those times and all the stories, with a smile to my grave.

A big fallacy was me 'living' out of the van, never happened. I spent less than a handful of nights in those vans over all the years and at least three of them were in the infield at Daytona on the Saturday night after the Busch Race and before the 500 the next day. You know some of the inventory I had in that van, heck, over a hundred frames, 7 or 8 hundred 8x10's half that many 11 x 14's, 16 x 20's, camera equipment, golf clubs, ball glove, bowling ball, frisbee, tennis rackets and three seasons of clothing, lol. I'm guessing I spent in excess of a year with Hosers from all over the country and they are easily some of my fondest memmories. I need to post a thank you, sell off some of my equipment and confirm my retirement, lol. Might be the longest post in Hoseheads history, be prepared. Take It Easy....
