this was just a couple of words who decided that "shit" was a bad word what makes it any different than "jello" for instance who really sat down and decided which words were "good" and which ones were "bad" and what gave them the right to make those decisions that is just something i have always wondered where it all started

It is not my God or your god, it is THE GOD! There is only one creator of all things, and to answer your question, it has nothing to do with religion. It doesn't matter what religion you are as long as you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. You could be any religion and still go to Heaven or Hell.
Almost 99% of all non-believers think salvation has to do with belonging to some certain religion, when in fact it has nothing to do with it. The bible doesn't teach anything about being one religion or requiring you to believe in a certain religion to be saved from eternal death.
If you ever want to read a good book (besides the bible) try reading "Evidence that demands a verdict!". It was written by a scholar who was a stuanch atheist before studying the evidence of bible. Now he has written several books concerning salvation & eternal life.
Nothing in the bible has ever been disproven, contradicted, or wrong. The bible has scientific information in it that proves it was inspired by God like stating the fact that the earth was round many centuries before mankind ever believed it or could prove it. How would anyone but the Creator have known the earth was round?
Anyway, people can choose to believe what they want. If someone wants to spend eternity in Hell suffering torment & being seperated from their loving Creator, that is their "choice". As long as they know the facts before they die, they can make any decision they wish. Just remeber, you have until your last breath to decide, but after that your eternal destiny is sealed. Choose wisely!

There in lies the problem of religion in general. It is your God. It may or may not be mine. You say that it is THE GOD. The one and only creator of all things. Presuming that I am of another religion that worships a different God than my response should of course be "Your God is non-existent and his greatest writings are fiction". And if you need a further illustration of how this scenario would play out watch the evening news. Or read middle eastern history for the last two thousand years.
Now if you want to talk about the Bible and its truthfulness or whether it contained the knowledge only a supreme being could possess let me know and we can do that through email rather than clogging up this message board with worthless BS. But you better be on your game once you start. You need to clear up a few things yourself such as "The bible doesn't teach anything about being one religion or requiring you to believe in a certain religion to be saved from eternal death." Pretty sure you have to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior to gain entrance. I am also pretty sure that Jesus Christ is limited to the Christian faith when it comes to him being your personal Savior.
Christianity may very well be the one true religion. Or not. Most all of us here are adults that have already made a decision on our faith. Telling someone their wrong and will spend eternity in hell unless they convert is only going to piss them off and close their mind even more. In the end it is a personal decision and not one that should be open for a forced opinion or discussion any where you go. Like you said "Choose Wisely".

By the way, I have a lot of promiscuous sex (with men and/or women - gasp!) and I cuss a lot and I blatantly sin as much as possible, and so far it hasn't interfered at all with the sport of sprint car racing. But maybe you should make sure you don't accidentally sit next to my godless heathen lost soul at a race this summer. I might be contagious.

hey Jane!
thank your parents! they raised a pretty smart young lady. it would be an honor to sit near or next to you. have fun!

this has got to be the most entertaining thread I've seen in awhile. wright-one and crew chief that was awfully funny. Speaking of meanings of words..........if only George Carlin could grace this forum right now. Now THAT would be funny. No offense sprintfreak, but he'd probably make you feint with his thoughts.
Separation of church and EVERYTHING is a wonderful idea. We should start this separation in politics............

I am not one to tell you what to believe, just presenting the facts for open discussion. Once again, YOU DO NOT have to be any certain religion to be saved from eternal death. YOU DO have to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. It makes no difference what religion you are.
Anything you would like to discuss concerning the bible should be done in an open forum so all can see that the bible cannot be contradicted or proven wrong in anyway. Keeping the Truth in secret does nothing good for anyone.
I do not want to make anyone angry, or drive them away from Christ or the bible in anyway. If, by presenting facts I am doing that, I appologize. God wants all of his children to return to HIM through the Son, but he gives all of his children the "choice", which is what HE knows we wanted. If someone chooses not to accept Christ, it is their own decision and when Judgement Day comes, they will have no one to blame but themselves. Remember, this world is as good as it will ever get for non-believers, but this world is as bad as it will ever be for true believers. Heaven awaits for those putting their faith & trust in Jesus Christ, Hell for those who don't. I would think most level headed folks would want "all" the information before making an eternal decision, don't you?
If you want to debate the bible, have at it. The bible speaks for itself, in truth. If you think there is anything that you can show where the bible contradicts itself or is wrong, you are more than welcome. No one else has been able to do it for thousands of years, but you might be the first. I am always open to listen to ANYONE who wants to talk about the bible. God bless you friend.

Wow, we're in DEEP now..lol. I've been a churchgoer my whole life and have seen its positive influence. I likewise push my children's attendance. As I get older however it does seem as in most things moderation is key. I also realize however that the tougher one's circumstances, the harder it is to be moderate. People and cultures often go to extremes one way or the other when repressed... either radically turning to religion as a means to cope, or shunning it altogether. Religion has started many more wars than it's ended. Evidently celibacy doesn't work too well either as is witnessed by all the scandal in the Catholic Church. And if you push anyone, even your own kids TOO hard, they will rebel...its common sense and human nature. Good and evil will wage war until the end of time. There are hundreds of religions around the world... the COMMONALITIES in the basic teachings among nearly every last one of them seem to be what really matters most? If a person lives by those simple common sense guidelines, it doesn't matter their affiliation, or if they even have one at all the way I figure... because the way I see it I am affiliated and I don’t even come close to living up. But what do I know, I'm just a hillbilly from Pennsyltucky...lol. Racing's half my religion anyway...lol.

It's all about the context of how you use a word...
"You have the seven deadly words and then there are words that can be bad depending on how you use them. For instance...prick. You can "prick" your finger...but you can't finger your prick."
...the great philosopher and wordsmith...George Carlin
Oh well, what's a lapsed Catholic to do? Last time I went to Mass, the priest's sermon was a prerpared statement from the diocese detailing the legal and financial actions it was taking to avoid paying out the money stemming from all those messy abuse lawsuits. I didn't think it was neccessary for my ten ten year-old son to have to listen to.

Agreed...lol. Can't say I've ever heard this discussion at the races before. Most arguments there nowadays seem to be aimed at Rahmer along with a few beer cans...lol.

"YOU DO have to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. It makes no difference what religion you are."
Sorry to put a monkey wrench in your understanding of the world's religions, this may come as a huge surprise but you just contradicted yourself. For one to accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior that means they would have to be a professed Christian and only certain denominations of Christendom at that. Not all professed Christians believe in the same method of personal salvation. Some put more importance on works than being "born again", for others ritual and their "infallible" leader is given more prominence.
Furthermore, there are more non-Christians in the world than there are Christians. The website adherents.com lists the following percentages: Christian 33%, Islam 21%, Hinduism 14%, Primal-Indigenous 6%, Chinese Traditional 6%, Buddhism 6%, Judaism .22%, non-religious 16%. In other words, 33% of the world's population professes to be Christian, 67% is composed of other religions that do not follow Jesus Christ and the non-religious. So by saying in one sentence that one must accept Christ and in the next sentence that it doesn't matter what religion one is you're contradicting yourself. Which is it, does a person have to be a Christian like the 33% minority or don't they? I would be classified as a former Christian who is currently closer to agnostic so I'd probably fall in that 77%.

I got those numbers off the first website I pulled up in a google search. There could be more up-to-date versions out there but it wasn't necessary to spend a lot of time on it. I just meant to point out that there is a bigger picture out there and a lot of different ideas. We tend to forget sometimes that we've got a lot of company all around the globe.
