That's all they need for the topless tour this week, is a rough track

Warren, if you're in Buda you're starting to get into my stomping grounds. Which way are you headed?

Just checking in and I'm in Columbia, SC unloading and then reloading for Enid, OK, now.

Sounds like the OKC track for wingless sprints was the roughest track of the season or close to it, SAD!

I just talked toBoyd "Bones" Brieten of early '80s Open Wheel fame and also a former Nance frame builder.

He said he worked on the Shot Hampton 94. Remembered when Moss had it in Amarillo. Be a good guy to talk to about particulars on the car.

Hi Brian,

I saw your post with the pics of the old modifieds. I raced in Houston many years ago as did some of my friends. We have been looking for some vintage modifieds to restore. They insisted I send you a note to see if any of these cars are for sale. And, what part of the country are they located?

Thanks for your time,

Jim

Sorry to chyme in on all of this but just now took the time to get caught up and read.

I couldn't believe that, in all the years Mike has been racing, he only has one NCRA championship. That was the final year of the champ dirt cars for NCRA. I was doing some stuff press wise for NCRA and upon finding out that has been his only championship, I was shocked as he always has been a fixture with the series.

Luckily, I have most of the 1984 and 1985 NCRA season on video tape, thanks to Norman's Dean Martin, who filmed all the races. It is not masterly produced but serves the purpose if you know what your looking at.

Brian26, need to get that vhs on dvd and I will trade you out on some of the stuff I have as I am big-time into the old stuff. I have the '59 Taft stadium tape along with the '72-73 MARCAR produced tape from the fairgrounds. Plus late 60's and early 70's highlights from Tulsa and Muskogee. "Good stuff" as JD would say.

Sorry to hijack ya'lls thread. Just find it a great read.

I met him at Nance's shop back then early 80's, Yey he was kind of a cult hero via Openwheel Mag , I believe he was the one who gave us a tour of the tin shed off to the side of Nance's shop and showed us some 12 or so of Sammy 1n cars in various stages of rolling status that were not to Sammy's liking or something else and if I remember they were all for sale.

David,

Been out of computer for a few days. Don't mind the tv going obsolete but I HATE being off the web.

Will be looking to get that tape on DvD. Will look you up too!!! I like USAC from anytime, but OUR supers in motion is always the best show.

A few notes on the tape I have- It is amazing how bad the track conditions were that day. Almost like an off-road race but not quite. The show is just as it would be as if it were played live today. So many times old racing tapes or video is given to a grainy feel. Not this one, the footage is just as I remember it being like in the '70s.

Not to be cocky, ....but

When I am dead and 6 feet in the ground, look up my nephews, they might be willing to sell.

This shot is from 25 years ago, these cars are currently being brought back. The coupe is running as of a month ago, and the super in the background has run since this shot was taken, parked for 20 years only to have me drag it home and go at it again. They are family cars, and they mean too much to me. Have been learning not to buy any cars that have no history which relates to me or my family. Out of room and money too often.

It is nuts for a guy like me to try to have 3-5 cars that run all at the same time. I know, believe me.

The car almost out of the shot is the FIRST car I ever tried to buy,( I was 6). Still waiting for my turn.

Brian,

I was talking to Harold the other day and suggested we have a garage sale (He agreed). We have more old Supers and parts than we could ever finish. The flood in Wichita Falls may get the ball rolling, his new shop has about 3 1/2 foot of water running through it.There about 4 cars in the shop, welders, motorcycles and ,my new 327 for the Walker car is floating in there somewhere.

Paint and wheels would go a long ways on this one. I don't care to make the body perfect.
