From what the drivers were told at the meeting on Wed. when the lapped car goes to the back, they get there lap back, so it is kind of like the Lucky Dog. If they are 2 laps down, they get one lap back so on and so forth. I think this could actually bite them in the butts. What is to stop a driver from causing a yellow when they go a lap down to get there lap back. I think that they need to keep the lapped cars in there. The drivers who lapped the cars work to hard to gain that cushion.
Just my opinion

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the reason they are just inverting four, is because they are taking the top two finishers in the heats to the Dash?
Winner of heat one on the pole of the dash, winner of heat two outside row one, etc., Then second place in heat one inside row three and the like, the two top qualifiers who made the A through the heats but did not finish first or second in their heat then get spots nine and ten in the dash? Am I wrong here?
With todays equipment being so equal and the drivers being of the talent the top dawgs are, I can understand inverting just four. At least they are making them race in the heats, used to just set the top five and coast around.
Nobody is ever happy here anymore. I'm sorry to see that. The WoO officials are some pretty good folk overall and most of the drivers and crew are quality people as well from what little contact I have had with them all. I'm just glad it is racing season again.

CoachBob, the 8 cars transferring through the heat to the dash draw for starting spots in the dash. Then the top 2 qualifers making it through the heat occupy spots 9 & 10 in the dash.

Bob
...the way I understood it last night was that top 5 transfer to the A, with the top two in each heat going to the dash...the top eight starting spots in the dash are determined by a pill draw, with spots 9 and 10 going to the two fast qualifiers that made it through their heats...I may be wrong as well, but I thought that is how it was explained...

Because of the cone on the restart I like the rule. Usually when the yellow flies the leader is still in heavy lapped traffic, a yellow ususally gives him a clear track, while everyone else has to race the lappers, this is fair how?
I watch a lot of racing at Eldora, and when they hit the gas between three and four, by the time the lappers clear the cone, the leader has a half a strait lead, then by the time second place clears the lapped cars, the leader has a straitaway lead.
I don't however like the invert four take five rule. Why not just automatically lock in the fastest 16 to the feature and start with b-mains for everyone else, as most of those inverted in the top 4 will make the feature hands down, especially at high speed places like Eldora.
I live for nights like Wednesday and Thursday at Knoxville and also the Kings Royal heats where the actually mean something, and the guys have to race. I know the drivers hate it, but the fans love it and we pay the bills. We stop coming, they stop racing, I'm sure they will hate that too. As it is now, most of the night is just killing time until the a-main, everything else is anticlimactic.

I've never liked the idea of the cone restarts. I miss the days of the restarts that were just like the initial start, except in single file.

I do like the idea of two chalk lines for the restarts though.

The heats do require racing after looking at tonights results. They ARE only taking the top two finishers to the dash, so the days of qualifying well and then cruising in the heat are over, you gotta race for a top two anyway, so maybe we'll see some hard racing this year.
The pill draw puts some luck into it, which is fine. A guy could realistically be 20-30th quick, finish first or second in the heat and start on the pole of the dash with a lucky draw. So a bad qualifying run doesn't necessarilly screw the whole night.
Given a good track the WoO on Thursday and Friday put on two of the best features I can remember, so I have an open mind about the season, but they need good surfaces, enough rubber down already. Two of the first four nights, that's 50%, way to much.

This rule is supposedly what the drivers wanted.
Regardless, the rule follows suit with Ted's propensity over the years for taking care of the travelers (especially the big dogs).
With 25+ traveling teams this year, it only makes sense that the big-name drivers would be in favor of it to get the "backmarkers" out of the way to let them race to the end for the win.

You will see passing in the heats this year at places that have local 410's involved, trust me. Qualifying generally goes down as the pill draw gets higher, therefore some guys that go out late will start further back in their heats and you will see them make the top four due to their ability to PASS, you saw that in Florida already.
The people doing the most whining are frequently those that don't go often anyway and seeing some names that are complaining in this thread proves that observation, c'est la vie. You can't bring back the dinosaurs either, save the complaints for a few months then have at it ladies. Take It Easy.....

Ah, give the drivers what "they" wanted? Hey WoO, here's a novel idea, how about asking the "PAYING FAN" what he or she wants to see in racing! I know, open the gates and we will come! E-Mods.
