If anyone wants to go to a really crappy bar for a good burger. Williamson Tavern. South of Knoxville toward Chariton. Papa Burger is the size of a Soccer Ball.
The one guy I suggested taking his kid to the Boone Railroad. A scenic Railroad ride for people over Hills and valleys. It also has a dining car. His kid loved it.
I'd say visit MSPN under the grandstand for some photos bt he won't be there.

Nothing better than a late night cooler race on the way back from the party under the grandstands. Just don't get a public intox while in the process of kicking your buddy's ass.
MUST sit on the backstretch sometime during your journey(s) to Knoxville. And Subway or Hyvee after the grandstand party is also mandatory. Proceed to drink a few more after the late-night supper, then pass out, rinse, lather, and complete again the next day.

I need to find a Knoxville sweetie I guess

Actually, Duane, The Swamp Fox is catty corner (sp?) from the Post Office. I think the sign on the front says Red Rock Culteral Center and Swamp Fox is in smaller letters. They have good lunches and the nightly specials are real good. I reccomend it to anyone who asks.

I know what you mean. When I moved here from Arizona and talk centered around a good Mexican place, I had more than one local say, "We just love Mexican food, we go to Taco Bell all the time!" There you go.

I haven't heard any reviews around town in either direction, but just an FYI... the Main Street Cafe has had a change in ownership and also a name change.

Well that sucks!
One can only hope that the new owners live up to the tradition of the previous ones.

Good luck, Hawker. After reading posts by smokerudrinkplayeruget and Katich, I wouldn't let my dog eat there.

I wouldn't worry too much about that, Duane. They won't even let us have knives to cut bands on newspapers and magazines, etc. Seriously.

the game I like to play at Knox Nationals is, "Dont cross that line" yep, crack your beer, take a few sips, (decide with others in your party) " lets go over there" ? and see how many paces you can make on a plublic sidewalk before local pigs tell you to dump it out, OOPS! my bad, I guess ill have to drink fast!, Ive made this mistake a few times (simply forgetting what i was doing with a beer in my hand), and surprizeingly, the local enforcement was pretty corgial about the mistake, and let me go,
what can some of you "Senior nationals attendies" shed light on, you know, things NOT to do in Knox? , that will keep us all coming back yearly, and keep the #1 dirt track vacation, a pleasureable one!
Sit on wall in front of the track and just "people watch" on #14, its worth a couple of laughs, legs, and leftovers!
I forgot, I always missed the pancakes? I will try act civil for one night next time ,so I can try the pancakes!

Jack,That was me you sent to the Boone train two years ago. Indeed my son was 5 then and really into trains so that was a great call. Definitely worth it. Speaking of trains...we killed 90 minutes or so last year at a model train museum that may have been in Newton? Just a few bucks to get in and the kids liked it.
Here's another one for you that I could use a tip:
Last year we rented bicycles at a marina on Saylorville and had a great day. There was a nice paved trail that kept us off the road so it was safe for the kids. Where else can we do this? New scenery would be cool. We're generally up for anything within an hour or so of Des Moines.
Thanks. Larry

The model train place is just north of Colfax, I believe. It's a neat place that kids or anyone interested in trains or model trains would enjoy.
Gray's Lake in Des Moines is a neat place for a walk or biking.
There's also the Science Center and Iowa State Historical Museum in Des Moines. Huge supermall called Jordan Creek in West Des Moines, big outlet mall centers on I-80 at Williamsburg and I-35 at Story City and Adventureland Amusement Park in Altoona.

If you have children with you, go to the Pella Aquatic Center, added several things this past year. Pretty cheap for everything they have. I believe $6.00 for out of town adults.
Pella has several other things to do and see.

Heck no. I was only interested in his blueberry pancakes. Besides, I've lost weight since he's been gone...if it was me, I would have gained! LOL. He made good food, but his wife is a really nice lady. Didn't deserve to be treated like that...so typical of MEN. Ha ha.
