Wish there were more individuals involved in Open Wheel / Sprint car racing today with the backbone of DW. Pretty much all todays racers make sprint car racing just a " temp job" to get to NAPCAR land. Lotsa people come and go quickly it seems in sprintcar land these days.No one any smoother on the track and could make something out of nothing go fast as Doug could. As mentioned many times before , in my generation, the Big Three says it all, with lots of other racers trying just as hard along the way. DW is the salt of the earth.

You nailed it barryc! Exactlly what I say as well. If you go to a track and talk to any of the younger drivers and ask what are their aspirations, most will say a couple more years in sprints and I am off to NASCAR. Leaving all of us older kats who grew up with NASCAR when NASCAR wasn't even cool shaking our heads. Sprint car racing doesn't have the faithfuls who stick around purely because of their love for the sport. Look at Kinser he could've gone on to bigger and better but he stayed where his heart was and still is. It will be a sad day when he and other great older drivers move to retirement. Sprint car racing will surely be in need of drivers who will stay and carry on the tradition not chase fame and $!
