AB - 13 in CA, in effect since Jan 1, 1995...
"No employer shall knowingly or intentionally permit, and no person shall engage in, the smoking of tobacco products in an enclosed space at a place of employment..."
Actually covers truck/truck tractor cabs if non-smoking employees are/may be present/exposed to smoke...first or second hand.

Jeesch people, Iowa was like the 30th state to enact various no smoking laws.
Crying like a spoiled kid may work with your mom, but it will take more than that to get the state to change its mind.
Dipshit voters KNEW the stand that Chet Culver took when he was elected.

I think some people are taking this string just a little too seriously.
I personally find it somewhat funny that the state "leaders" pass a law that can't possibly be enforced and will take resources away from what they should be doing, fighting real crime or even trying to re-build from the floods/tornadoes.
For the record, I do not smoke, and I am happy with parts of the law--It will be nice knowing that when I sit down in my seat during the Nationals that a row in front of me, the guy can't legally light up and put me (and my 5 year old son) into the smoke cloud he will create.
On the other hand, didn't everyone already know that a bar would be somewhere it would be smokey (I guess I always just counted on it, if I didn't want to inhale it or smell like it when I left, I took my business elsewhere)?
If the leaders want to truly legislate, they'll pass a law worth something, along the lines of you can't get public assistance (FOOD STAMPS) if you smoke (you should be using your $$ on things like a nicer place to live, or for gas so you can look for a job).
Enough of my ranting, when do the races start??

So what is Knoxville doing? Do I have to go to turn 1, out the pass out gate, smoke, come back in the pass out gate, go back to my seat? Funny that the "overbearing" smokers were "forcing" people to breathe our smoky air even though nonsmokers always had places or sections to go to. Now those "understanding" nonsmokers are forcing their obsessions on everyone else by taking away ANY place they want to smoke.
Hitler liked to keep things his way, too.

But don't forget that it is completely safe for people to breathe your second hand smoke if they are gambling away their money and their family's livelyhood in a casino. No double standard there. Like one congressman said, it's the best law casino money could buy.

Hitler also use to like exterminating people using toxic gas and smokes.
Not that I 100% agree with the law in all parts.

Think about it. Where does this "protection" end? Methanol fumes??
It's just the concept that we are being "protected" from something new every year. Where does it end?? Nobody can say for sure.

I seen nothing about campgrounds in the document. I heard some business owners (local bar owners here) are trying to find loopholes to get around it but are finding it difficult. One option I heard they were looking at was redefining their bars as "Private Clubs" with a very small membership fee of $.01. Another was reclassifying the establishment as a Bar& Smoke Shop. Seems like the law had paragraphs in it that shot these ideas down but have not heard any more about it. Personally I am not a smoker (Unless I have had a lot
to drink) then I will smoke cigs or a cigar. So I am all for the law.
|
They have gotten around the law in New York by having seperate rooms where smoking is allowed, however no food or drinks may be served in this room.

Iowa law does not allow even an outdoor area for smokers at a resturant, such as a patio.
Bars IF they don't sell food can have a patio where smoking is allowed.
