I think you all are right mostly its the fuel prices and since diesel effects EVERY single thing you purchase then you get a trickle down effect, although lately its been more than a trickle. Also on the other hand I think the chickens might have come home to roost at some of these tracks. I know of several racers, mmm 9, I can count without much effert, that have either quit all together or just waiting for a change of management because of the way people are being treated. All of these guys and one gal can afford to go raceing but choose not too. These days and times are perplexing for sure.

Man, this is depressing, Dave. I know times are tough, but life without racing...YIKES! I sure hope this trend turns around soon. I don't know what I'd do on Fri nights. I might just have to find me an old bleacher bench to put in my back yard and crank up a TV with racing videos, like dirtrack29&28. Have OKCFan12 come over and light up a cigarette, get someone to throw some dirt on me, and blow an engine up for the smoke, then I'd be OK. Just like SFS on a Fri night!
Or I could win the lottery! Then I'd bye Lanny out and pay everyone $5000 to show up. Might not last too long, but would be a lot of fun!

LOL, you've got it all figured out and it sounds great!
It is sad, but it's doesn't look like it's going to get any better any time soon. If it keeps going at this rate, there won't be a middle class anymore...either rich or poor....really sucks when you think about it.

Yeah, it does. Something's gotta give, eventually. I hope it's not racing!
By the way, Christina, I'm a big Gary Owens fan, too. Got to know him and his family the last few years at SFS. Good people and good driver. His mom and uncle sit up in the stands with us, and she's real nice. I've even had some good long conversations with his dad several times. Lots of cool stories and history there. A friend of mine's son plays FB at Bethany and I went with them to their game at Paul's Valley last Fall. We told Glen and Gary we were going and they met us there, and somehow we talked them into sitting on the Bethany side with us. Had to be tough for them. Gary was good athlete there, ya' know. But I basically had my own personal interview with Glen and didn't really see much of the game. I enjoyed hearing about racing back in the day. Wish I could've seen some of that action. That was a really cool experience for me. He was good to answer all my questions. (Bethany won, by the way, so they told me.)
So far, Gary's off to a great start this year. Gotta be better than last year, huh? Glad his mom wasn't there when he got hurt at SFS. That was a rough stretch there - I saw his wreck in Lawton, too. But hey, he's running good now. Go #33!!

Glad to hear it! The family is definitely one of a kind, and I wish we had more people in this world like them. Gary has amazed me over the years. He has never ignored any of my kids and their silly questions or any other fans/kids that walk up to him. He takes the time and that matters to the kids. Even my 3 yr old will sit there at the track and constantly ask "Where's Gary?" When Gary pulls out on the track, he jumps up all excited "There's Gary!" It's pretty funny. I remember watching Glen run his super at Lawton, and yeah he has some stories to tell so I can imagine you missed the game LOL. They are amazing people!
The year is going great for them! He's in a pretty good running for the championship, and we would love to see him get it. The accident was pretty bad. I didn't see it, and glad I didn't, but he told me all about it and how he was doing. I would've freaked out just as bad as his mom. As of right now, we are planning on going up Friday night to watch him run.

So nice to hear the good stuff about Gary. We've enjoyed seeing him run at Lawton and SFS over the past few years. My son has had the same positive experiences with Danny Jennings and Koby Barksdale. They answer all his questions and let him sit in their cars. Great guys who present good role models for our youth! Thanks Gary, Danny and Koby!

It does mean a lot to the kids...I know from a personal experience. I remember being around 6 yrs old and meeting Sammy Swindel for the first time. He was a big jerk and didn't want to bother to even sign an autograph. Being a little kid, I thought I did something wrong and cried all the way home. From that point on, I've never been a fan of his. Koby is a good kid. We used to run with him when he ran mini sprints at Faxon.

I know of one thing that would help alittle, no registration fees. I dont know why they would charge an out of town guy extra money to register. I know some tracks waive it, but if a guy is not racing for points and just wants to travel, that would help some. Methanol is high too, but just paid $2.55 at Red Rock with their new sponsorship program. That's down from $3.90 at the beginning of the season. Another reason is there are very few new racers joining the ranks. One reason is there is no cheap affordable class to join, e.i. back to making the factory stock class an actual beginner, knock out the windows, add a roll cage, cheap car. JMO.
