Smitty, like I said we've been at this game full time since 1983 when we started doing sprint car engines in house at Blue Max when Sammy drove for us. We then left and formed our current company in 1987. Trust me when I say our engines have won numerous 410 races since 1983 with the WoO, All-Stars, IRA, SCRA, CRA, NCRA, NARC, and the Golden State Series. Our 410 engines have won races from California all the way to Pennsylvania and in between. They've also won races and championships in New Zealand and Australia.

Not trying to start a pissing match just stating facts.

Sprintfan0 yes I do own ASCS engines, and I work closely with a team that has the best 410's money can buy. I'm not trying to offend you or anyone else, nor am I trying to start a pissing match (life is too short for that, and I just wanna have some fun before I check out). I'm not here to just shoot off at the mouth and have no idea what I'm talking about like so many people who come here (not pointing any fingers....we all know there are tons of those people on here). Fact of the matter is, NOBODY is making money running a race team without huge sponsor dollars behind them. It's too bad it can't be cheaper....hell it might make it more fun if it was! Forgot to mention....I'm basically speaking of traveling teams (notice I said ASCS national and Outlaws). You're right, the difference is 10,000 dollars, but with the two groups I mentioned it's 2-3 times as much the expense in everything it seems.

There is no comparison between WoO purses and ASCS. An ASCS regular regional show I believe pays $1,500 to win and $150 to start the A up to about 16th. Before East Bay got it's present owners it payed better for it's then weekly shows 4 years ago. With the present cost of travel it's going to be tough for the little guy to race with them if they're not in his back yard.

jake899, thanks for the earlier post! I was looking at the cost to run the shows versus the purse. Looks like an ASCS costs around $36,000 for 20 races and an outlaw team would spend around $70,000 for the 20 races on engines alone. The ASCS runs for about half the purse as the outlaws so this looks pretty even when it comes to engine costs.

Wesmar- Chad Blonde won 10 races last year with his 410 Wesmar. He looks fast where ever he goes.

Well the spoils go to the victors so they have every right to toot their own horn! However, it does bring up an interesting topic for discussion. All three of the drivers mentioned have had significant experience and success in the 410 ranks. Jason Johnson* had a great 410 nationals run (was that an Ott?), Gary Wright has won a gazillion NCRA 410 features and titles, and if I am not mistaken I think Wayne "hot dog" Johnson** recently won an Allstar 410 show in Florida this year.

Mark, credit for the Allstar win goes to Charlie, not Kelly. And, if I'm not mistaken, I don't think JJ was using Wesmar power either. Gary, on the other hand, I do not know.

David, it's been more than 10 years hasn't it? I found out about it from Terry Gray in 1997

Congratulations Kelly and keep sending out them press releases. My question is out of all the cars at OKC, how many had legal heads?

heres a question that can be a little helpfull and interesting, Kelly maybe you can fill us in? , (now, were doing a comparison on ASCS 360's correct) How much has the top end ,(valvetrain and heads) changed over the years on a outlaw 410 compaired to a ASCS 360 ? , To my knowledge the Latest and greatest in a 360 has been ignition and injection the past four years? heads still the same , what has evolved for the 410? , I dont think this (360 vs 410) is a worthy comparison, I dont understand the argument over 360 vs 410, its pretty cut and dry , those with deep pockets run a up to date full competition 410 nationally , regional warriors run a soft outdated 410,/ regulars "regional cats" run a mild 360, National chasers run the "full on" 360 , pretty common and easy to see! no comparison. Any thoughts about this?

Wesmar Racing Engines)“360’s are too slow” – “360’s aren’t much cheaper to run than a 410” – “ASCS doesn’t pay nothing” These were some phrases muttered in the past by a few WoO drivers who happened to show up at Oklahoma City’s ASCS Spring Nationals in an attempt to cherry pick the pockets of Emmett Hahn’s faithful followers while their series laid idle. In the end when all the preliminary events are run and the big money on the final night is on the line Wesmar Racing Engines once again stood atop the podium! Driving Lanny Row’s faithful #41 Jason Johnson took advantage of his pole position starting spot then withstood several challenges from Daryn Pittman and in the closing stages from Danny Lasoski to secure his second OKC Spring Nationals victory in three years. In a field of 24 cars in which saw 11 of those utilizing Wesmar power Gary Wright continued his streak of 19 consecutive top 5 finishes with a third place finish aboard his own #9 and maintained his points lead over fellow Wesmar Warriors Wayne Johnson and Jason Johnson. There are drivers we consider legends in the SCHOF that drove cars that turned slower lap times than today's 360's. As a matter of fact, many of them weren't even as fast as today's 305's. It's all relative.

410's have become so fast that they've taken a lot of the actual side by side racing out of the equation. Believe me, today's rocket ships (410's) weren't the kind of cars that attracted me to the sport in the beginning. Even though Late Models and Modifieds are a few ticks of the stop watch slower than 410's their racing can be very fun to watch. Pure speed isn't necessarily what determines an exciting race. Case in point, non-wing cars don't carry the corner speed but they're plenty exciting to watch.

Not that I dislike 410's but the Outlaws Heat races spread out after a lap or two a lot of times. I've seen some good Features but overall the cars by my way of thinking are akin to the Top Fuel version of dirt track racing. Fun to watch in their own right but not as many wheel to wheel battles throughout the field as there used to be.

I for one get more tired of the drivers trying to baffle us with bullsh*t every other day on the main page. Telling everyone how great they are when they ran 10th at least the boys at Wesmar can back up their BS with results.

Great job Kelly and another 'beaut' as press releases go, one of many over the years that are more fun than about any other you'll get from industry people. Grins and giggles and doing your job very well, life is good in OK these days it would appear, kudos. A big hello to your Pops as well, still can't believe you're related, lol. Take It Easy...

Some really funny replies. I guess ya gotta know Kelly to get the jist of his press releases. Since moving to Okla. last year, I've been to the WESMAR factory several times. They are really good folks that I have alot of respect for. Having been around 410's for the past several years in Ohio I have found that 360 racing is just as good if not better than 410's. And I don't care who you are, without a stop watch, you ain't gonna tell the difference between the two, from the stands. I've been around this sport for 50 years and am just happy that we still have sprinters to go watch, whether it be 410's,360's or 305's.

The politically correct press releases that some race people ,are just that...PC. Kudos to Kelly for telling it like it is !!!
