There should not be provisionals at a local level. Golobic who lost his nose wing hitting BK in a lap 2 log jam, had to go to the rear & spent a total of 5 laps behind the 31 car before passing him. With out the hold up probably who have finished a few spots higher.

Well if I would have known this would have been this big of a topic.........we mighta just done something sooner. This has been the most talked about topic on here in a while!
All in all, I think provisionals suck too! No driver ever wants to use one, but if it is available and there is something good that can come out of it, so be it. I know I hated to take one, but it proved worth it to my team. I can appreciate everyone's point of view, but the bottom line is......I didn't do anything wrong. But hell, if anyone wants to talk to me about it, your always welcome in the 31 trailer. I'll talk with anyone about racing, no matter the subject.

laudarevsonhunt I wasnt at the race, but how did Golbic lose his front wing? Did it fall off under yellow? Or was the race still going? Not sure as to why he had to tag the rear. But taking it a little further, if he did line up behind the 31, regaurdless if he took a provisional or not, he should still have to pass him. The 31 doesnt have to get out of the way for anyone in that situation.
What is next though, a pre determinded qualifing order lol with one provisional putting you were you like in the order lol KIDDING

There was a log jam in turn 3 on lap 2 quite a few cars made contact, somebody spun and a yellow came out. Under the yellow Golobics nose wing was hanging off the front of the car so the officials sent him to the pits, BKs nose wing was damaged but fell back onto the hood so he stayed on the track -the officials made the right call on both cars. The point is if there were no prov he wouldn't have had to pass 31, he wouldn't have been out there.

Yea without being there and seeing it that is tough. But if there is a car out on the track using a provisional, and he is not getting any points or money, then it would be good sportsmanship to let the guys on the lead lap thru. He can elect to start at the back. That would have been the sportsman thing to do, but again he doesnt have to do that.
If it helps look at it like this. If the Wright One wasnt sponsering the series, would there be a series. So in the begining if they want to gaurantee a spot for their car, why not cause they are bringing a WoO race to Ocean Speedway.

coulda, woulda, shoulda. if..if...if. the promotor has made his call. prentice is a fair guy and i would like to think that he would have done the same thing for anyone as long as it did not become something that was abused, but we will not have a chance to find out. folks were wondering if other drivers would be treated the same, now that has been taken out of the equation.i am aware that others have inquiered about useing ricks provisional should they be in a situation. as far as i know he did not say no. left turn, you said this:"No one ever thought to ask because no one would want to get into a race that way...lol". well if no one else wanted to use it why is there such a big deal being made about who is going to be able to use it in the futire? (that has been solved). prentice has tried to do what he can for ALL his drivers, both the regular ones and the every so often ones. hell, he changed the key race qualifying last year to try to help keep things fair for a loyal car owner. and he got nothing but grief from all sides. he has cut classes to try to get the races done on time and not have to cut races short. he has taken steps to try to give the racers a better surface to run on. he has done what he can to try to make his track a good place to race. now because of a few people who can not see that maybe their driver or team might be able to be in a position take advantage of the same situation in the future, john and rick can not choose to offer the same help or what ever you want to call it.

I don't think Wright is a sponsor for the WoO or Civil War race.. WoO does allow provisionals, Civil War i don't know? Like someone said earlier if not for Wright there probably would not be a 360 series at Ocean, sometimes it's better to just bite the bullet and just back off with all the complaining. There was bitching on here about an ill prepared track that was one grove during the first GSC race at Watsonville, bitching about the rut at Tulare now more of the same about a sponsors right to a provisional at Ocean.. I guess it's human nature for some people to complain rather than just be happy there are quite a few tracks in norcal running sprints, the day may come when you will just see modifieds, street stocks, 4 bangers, dwarfs etc, and no sprints cars so be careful what you wish for..

The WoO shows always do. But the Civil War I think is all based upon racing your way in. I could be wrong but Im not even sure as to a first alternate. Because everything is so much points based. Meaning if someone that raced their way in cannot make the call, then I believe that person would just get last place points.
We should be happy that another track is actually having quality 360 winged racing on a local level. We should be happy we have something to actually complain about!
It will be fun to see when the outlaws do go there as to who gets the provisionals, since one is up to the promoter of the event.

Personally, I am not "bitching" about any provisional rule at all.
My questions regarding said rules were simply how they were going to be applied?
What criteria would be used in determining who earns a provisional?
In this case, it was the first alternate in the B-main, which seemed fair to me, if you are going to allow provisionals.
However, it appeared to be implied because the 31 driver 'knew the rules' and knew to ask, not so much that the decision was made because he was the 1st alternate. What if other drivers who also knew the rules had also asked? What criteria would have been used then?
Had no one mentioned anything about this subject, could it have been the 5th alternate next time?
Could it have been the first person to Approach Rick or John? My only questions are about what would be fair the next time the series has this many cars?
Every car out there has a sponsor, family or friends who want to see it race in the A-main. To use that argument in this last Friday was not what argument for using a provisional should be based on.
Liking the idea of a provisional or not was not my argument, but who was the benefactor of any provisional needed to be discussed and determined.
To leave it at the discretion of the Promoter or Series Sponsor to chose whoever they think is deserving would piss off a lot of others drivers, owners, sponsors, family and friends of drivers not offered the same opportunity.
This leaves the "Homer Track" rules out of the equation and should not jeopardize the growth of the sport at this track.
Rules have to be applied fairly and not subjectively, similar to the "lucky dog" rule in NASCAR. Everyone knows who and when this "rule" is applied and who the benefactor is. No argument.
None either in the WoO provisional system.
Neither is subjective. They are clear cut rules. This one was not.
If you want subjective rules, then you compromise the growth of the sport.

not meaning to argue or stir up more crap (what, me stir up crap?) and since my ass is always in a sling anyway. (and that would have to be a pretty big sling!) it seems that those that were complaining about what jason got, or were worried about what would have been done for anyone else anyone, have just made sure that NO one else will ever get the same thing. and if that is the way it is that is fine with me. i did read that prentice said any a main event for jr as far as a provisional. lol

Pardon me if I am wrong but isn't Newton driving one of Wright's cars? Check out some of the videos, all following the 31 car one night in the pits and on the track. Click on the video section by cmpvideo2go.com and watch the one from the first or second race. Wasn't Newton rookie of the year last? Hmmm that should answer a few question about the above issues.
Speaking of answering questions, is it the top 5 that go to the scales after the feature?
One more issue I have regarding last Friday nights race, main attraction Sprint Cars, feature cut to 16 laps! Precious time was lost because the track was a mud hole at the beginning of the night, ok someone screwed up and the track had to be worked on. Why then did they still go ahead and allow a lot of unnecessary action on the track that normally doesn't go on.....qualifying the IMCA cars for one. All so they could try and set a track record! Big to do's made about the feature winners too, a trophy and a sign next to them in front of their cars stating Feature Winner for their photos! What did the poor kid get that won the sprint race hands down? He clearly dominated the feature and if it had of gone the full 30 laps he still would of dominated and won but he didn't get a trophy, nor was the Feature Winner sign displayed. Shame on Ocean, they really blew that one. I hope in the future that Ocean treats all their drivers with the same respect and gives them all the same accolades when they win. Nice run by Suggs, congratulations Evan. He had a lot of fans in the stands screaming for him and I am sure they, like the group I was with were disappointed as well at the way that feature was handled..

jay, just to help you out, jason drives his own car. he was rookie of the year last year because he was the highest finishing rookie in the points. as far as the video thing goes, that is a deal between bruce velo and myself to chronicle jason's racing. as a favor to bruce, and to help make things easier, i agreed to by a new digital camera and bruce agreed to do the video work for us. bruce puts up what he records as his way of trying to let folks have an idea of what is happening at the sprint races. that is why you see so much of the 31. because he is videoing for US. as said, bruce is willing to take the time to put stuff on his site regardless of what he has recorded. again that is why you see the 31 as the predominent focus. bruce does try to get as much footage of everyone he can and we try to talk to some of the teams and drivers so bruce can give a little PR to others from time to time. hell we even go to some of the golden state shows and other places that we do not race just so there can be some video to show to folks. i hope that clears things up. i just don't want people saying jason is getting video favoritism now. lol!!

And I have to say thanks for the video footage from the different tracks. We need more people like yourself out there promoting the great racing we have out here in Calif. Have you guy's ever thought of shooting the Trophy Cup? It would be great for other's across the country to see how good the racing is out here. JMO.

i believe ( and make no doubt that i have been wrong at times) that most promotors reserve a promotors option that they can institute. just how each promotor chooses to implement it i would not know.

bruce and i were at the trophy cup last year. interviewed almost the entire pits!! so much videotape that i think bruce still has stuff he has not edited. bruce shot the race too. as a matter of fact that is when we realized there needed to be an upgrade to the video camera to make it easier to edit stuff. my thanks to bruce and his wife for their efforts.
