IF YOU CAN POSSIBLY MAKE IT WE NEED HUNDREDS OF BODIES AT THIS FINAL HEARING.

I CAN NOT STRESS HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE AS MANY PEOPLE AT THIS FINAL HEARING AS POSSIBLE. TAKE THE MORNING OFF AND THEN HEAD INTO WORK AFTER IT IS COMPLETED.

IT WILL TAKE ONLY AN HOUR OR TWO TOPS FOR YOU TO HELP RACING IN THE STATE OF MINNESOTA.

This is our last committee meeting that we are aware of to get this bill to the floor in the Senate, the House file is being sent to the floor. Again we are leaving in the provision of the civil suits hoping that we can get it into the senate intact and that we will be able to add it back into the house side of the bill.

THE COMMITTEE IS BEING HELD ON MONDAY MARCH 26TH AT 9:00 AM IN ROOM 107 OF THE STATE CAPITOL.

PLEASE E-MAIL EVERYONE ON THE LIST BELOW AND FORWARD THIS TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN.

Dear Senator

Please support SF311 modifying exemptions to noise standards; amending Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 116.07, subdivision 2a.

  • Put control of these issues in the hands of the local government.

This file would change the date of exemption from July 1, 1983 to July 1, 1996. Also Motor vehicle race events exempted from state standards under this subdivision are exempt from claims based on noise brought under section 561.01 and chapters 116B and 116D. This will put the jurisdiction into the hands of the local council's for control as they see the greatest impact from the sport.

  • Racing has a huge economic impact to the state of Minnesota

The economic impact of racing in the state of Minnesota is huge with thousands attending racetracks every weekend. Small market tracks bring in over $1,500,000 in induced economic impact to their markets with larger market tracks bringing in over $15,000,000.00 of induced impact to their markets. With 34 tracks in Minnesota this is a huge economic impact throughout the state while still not taking into account the parts stores, car builders, motor builders etc. who also do business in the state.

  • Unlike many businesses, racing is not a high profit business for promoters, fairgrounds or racers. It is a hobby and keeps many families together.

Although many economies reap the benefits of the racing action the promoter and fairgrounds that hold these events make very little profit. Tracks struggle to keep their doors open every year and the threat of litigation will cause many to close in the future, further reducing the economic gain from these facilities. Racetracks create a fun family atmosphere for all to enjoy and is one of the cheapest forms of family entertainment in the state of Minnesota. Many local charities do fundraising events in conjunction with the race tracks receiving thousands of dollars to their causes each year.

In closing, thank you for your time. I hope you will support SF311 during this legislative session.

Sincerely,

Name

City, State, Zip
