Just read Tim Kennedy's report on the race last Saturday night ( latest updates section) here is something he reported regarding the new systems in place...............
"Transponders are attached to the right rear of every sprint car and a reader "wire" is imbedded in the track at the finish line. The event also was the inaugural USAC/CRA use of one-way radio contact with every driver. Both systems worked flawlessly."
Tim....
I think the radio system worked flawlessly until it failed. Don't think the officials were showing the drivers the "chalk board" during the main event to show them what they were hearing.....hahaha
You do a great job though. Keep it up!

I don't understand. What is said to a driver over the radio? Like "one more time and you're out of here"? Driving tips? Comments on the paint job? Stuff like "you could be doing a better job driving"? Or like "step it up the Ripper is about to climb all up your backside"?
USAC shouldn't have all the fun thinking-up these high-tech NASCAR devices. Maybe owners and drivers have some trick techno stuff they'd like to see installed. Maybe the radios should be two-way so drivers can argue a call (NFL coaches get to argue calls during big games). Maybe the radio transmissions could be relayed to the crowd over the PA system so fans could let the officials know what they thought of the calls.

Nah,
I think the drivers should be given their own red lead shot filled red flags to throw at the flagger to indicate they have a problem with the officiating. Personal opinion, if they need something better how about BIG RED AND YELLOW lights to indicate a problem. Secondly, a simple board with the NFL Down Marker Flip Switches (to change the numbers) would go a long way in communication. Trying to read a poorly written, poorly lit scribble on a chalk board is hard enough to read from the back of the classroom let alone from a sprint car going 40 mph.
LOL,
Joe
