Sometimes happiness is never throwing anything away. These are a few of the relics in the CarWash Collection.

Don't know if anyone remembers the Hardtop but I worked on the #39 Bert Steffens owned and Fred Berrens shoed Hardtop, 63-64. Bert owned a Mohawk station in San Lorenzo and when I started with them they had a Buick nailhead, 6 carbed ,motored piece. Mostly B Main stuff, occasionally got into the Main. Then they put a chevy motor in it with 6 2's on an Edelbrock cross ram manifold and we were a Main event car. Didn't scare Pombo, Kaeding, Sargent, Redino, etc., but as a young Sailor stationed at Alameda, working at Berts Mohawk station, working on the Hardtop and crewing on it at the San Jose pavement track.................well, didn't know it at the time but that was something else. A greater experience now than I realized back then. I'll never forget it. I love to talk to Al Pombo every time he's at Kings and neve miss a Pombo Sargent show.
