It wasn't mid-90s...it was between 2002-04. I'm thinking 2003.

10th Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup

Lernerville Speedway, Sarver, Pennsylvania

Sammy Swindell was injured in a freak accident during qualifying. Swindell's Sprint Car slammed into the rear of a push truck on the front straightaway to begin his 2nd lap of qualifying. He sustained a fractured right ring finger, a cracked kneecap, contusions and broken bones in his left hand and contusions to his head and groin area.

Damn! I hadn't seen that... it pretty much sucked...

I hate most Donny Schatz fans...i.e. all the ones who
started rooting for him within the last 3 years...
i.e. 90% of them.

He didn't "run into the back of a push truck". The poop for brains in the truck wasn't supposed to still be on the track.

sammy entered and attempted to race at Kville with broken bones in his hands but pulled in early during the pre-lim rounds. a few morons brought a "sammy sucks" banner and walked it down the front rown of the FS grandstand only to be pelted by hot dog wrappers and beer cans - some of them full - and get the banner ripped out of the hands and thrown over the railing. just shy of getting their asses kicked, they were escorted out.

'really didn't get hurt', YIKES. Sammy had some terribly painful injuries and damage to a certain region of the body along with injuries that would have kept the average human off work for weeks if not months. It was a miracle he walked away and at the time had set fast time with his first lap. Take It Easy......

The scariest part was that Sammy had switched to the downtube chassis that year. He was the last holdout on the WoO tour.

Also, he mentioned after the wreck that he was looking at the timing board, thus not seeing the truck pull out in front of him.

Shorty after I remember alot of tracks made all push trucks get flashing lights on the truck. Next year I was at Terre Haute and I think all the trucks had Flashing yellow lights all across the back bumpers.

More simple solution would hire smart people to push and not be on the track still knowing a car is going 130 mph and they are doing 25mph

the reason that the push truck was still on the track is because the car that he was pushing off next to qulaify didnt fire right away....

Two things, I wonder if guys are still looking at the times they put up while on the track and the dude in the truck should have at least pulled down to the bottom of the track, looked like he was right in the middle. Unfortunate incident! Sure hope all racers learned from that.

Of course the drivers look at the times while driving, especially with the inverts.
