CONCORD, N.C. — March 5, 2008 — The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event scheduled for March 14-15 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tenn., has been canceled.

Given the wintry conditions that have persisted into March, Volunteer Speedway officials have not been able to prepare their facility for an event featuring 410-sprint cars competing at high speeds.

Muddy Creek will be racing this weekend right down the road from Bulls Gap. It will be the 2nd outdoor motocross race of the season. Temps are in the 70's for the forecast this weekend.

They have a practice scheduled for next Thursday and a 2 day late model show scheduled to replace the Woo. The late model show is paying 10,000 to win 700 to start both days, same as the Woo. Something is up here.

Y'all might want to look at the weather forecast. Bristol has a 60% chance of rain on Friday and snow showers on Saturday with a low temp in the 20s. Sounds like a good time to be somewhere else to me.

Sorry Duane. I'm now on a self-imposed ban from this forum. Don't want to expose my ignorance any more than necessary.

Why is it a good call Stan? Are we going to start cancelling all races 10-14 days out if it looks like inclement weather? Hell, that would eliminate more than half the shows I go to. They must not be to worried about the purse since they have already scheduled a late model show for about the same money.

No need for that, the title of the thread was misleading in itself.

I hope we are all here for fun and entertainment, so join in whenever you like.

If it is true that the track has scheduled two late model events for that day instead. Then the WRGI financials could be very telling. Could this be the first kink in the armour for WRGI and could it be the first prelude to possible chapter 11 protection. It sounds a lot like what went on with CART and CCWS before both went under.

As someone who lives in an area where Late Models are the most popular class with the locals and the frost goes deep I can give an answer from our perspective. Up here in Minnesota and western Wisconsin we've had the coldest winter in many years without a lot of insulating snow cover. Consequently, when our tracks push the openers as early as possible in April and the frost hasn't come out of the ground tracks get very rough. Late Models have been known to break suspension parts from hitting the ruts that develop in spite of the best possible track preparation. That's just the way it is with frost, until it's out of the ground the clay is going to roll up.

A Late Model hits a frost hole and breaks an A frame. A Sprint hits a frost hole and they'd be untangling the car from the catch fence. Early season Sprint races can get ugly when the frost isn't out of the ground yet. I can't speak for Bull's Gap but up here we sometimes have big problems with early openers after cold lingering winters.

I heard that several tracks up here that scheduled to open the first weekend of April are not very optimistic that they're going to be able to prepare the track. Those are Stock Car tracks and it's not looking good. 410 Sprints would be out of the question.

Tracks are worried about drawing a crowd in questionable weather. I think it's no secret that this track is in the middle of Late Model country so they probably didn't want to take the risk on getting a good crowd. I think this year with high priced gas you'll see the tracks pull the plug early for specials when teams are traveling. Probably the Late Models are more locally based around that area. Just my guess based on more years of experience than I hate to admit.

NST shirt and tech trailer is still parked at Steve Kinser's I heard.

Recently when someone wanted to buy the tech trailer the comment was " I think I'll hold on to it for another year".

Wonder why!
