Scott and Tamara Benic announced today that they do not intend to vie for the 2008 USAC sprint car championship with their 2B Racing team. The familiar #2B has followed the USAC tour since 2003, with drivers such as Boston Reid, Levi Jones, Bud Kaeding, Mat Neely and Brady Short. During that time the team has chalked up over thirty-five victories including ten USAC wins, eight TNT Sprint Bandit wins and numerous MSCS and local events. The team also collected the 2005 USAC National Championship and National Non-Wing Team of the Year, the 2004 Indiana Sprintweek title, two Ultimate Challenge victories and two USAC Earl's Qualifying Championships.
When asked why the team has decided to scale back for the 2008 season, team owner Scott Benic cited lack of sponsorship as a major factor in their decision. "Lucas Oil Products had been a big part of the success we had achieved in the past. We could not come to terms with them for the 2008 season and without sponsorship we will have to cut our schedule back," said Benic from his Fairmount, Indiana shop. "We have secured some sponsorship to run some of the big races for 2008, such as Eldora and Oskaloosa, and we are working to find sponsorship for some of the other major events on the 2008 schedule. We have no drivers in mind yet, but we will work on that over the next few weeks."
