We were discussing this over the weekend and were trying to name the best sports announcer. I would have to put Johnny right up there with Michael Buffer with his ability to get a crowd hyped up. I think ESPN2 is missing the boat by not using his call more on the race broadcast.

As far as racing goes, I always enjoyed Jack Miller.

Windy McDonald of Manzanita Speedway is up there with J.G. in my opinion. I guess since this is his 50th year announcing at the track he has "some" practice. ha Anyone agree?

I agree Windy McDonald is classic. He can call a non wing show better than any. I like Scott Dalosio from Perris Auto Speedway, he is very skilled at calling racing.
Johnny Gibson is good but I sometimes get tired of the overzealous style. He calls some racing like it is the best race ever and yet the cars are strapped down to a rubber down 1 lane surface with zero passing. I know he's gotta keep the fans entertained but I dont feel its necessary to overhype that kind of show. Differences of opinion I suppose...Anyhow I feel the combo on ESPN2 right now are great.

Hands down, Jack Miller. Not only a good voice but he knew racing and did his home work every race. Always greeting the drivers, crew and key personnel with memory and clip board in hand. He didn't over sell the racing action but always found the action on the track, be it front or rear and pointed it out. He also handled the tragic situations, that occurred all too often, in a masterful way. For many years he was Knoxville and the Nationals.
He was also the first official announcer for a rag tag bunch of outlaw racers that a huckster formed into the premier sprint car series racing today.

JG is bad ass, but I would have to say that Bobby Gerould is my favorite. Bobby can make an ant race exciting!
Both are extremely passionate about the sport....

I don't need to hear Gibson's "You wanted the best..." on every ESPN2 telecast. It's a little too "boogity, boogity, boogity" for me. Gerould is very good though. Maybe it's genetic for Bobby as his dad was/is a pro.

In years past, when the winner came from the front row 10 weeks in a row, the track was rubber and dirty, Johnny always made the race seem exciting.
I often wondered if he was watching the same race I was LOL LOL LOL.

Tim Trier is the best all-time announcer, but today, nobody is better than Tony Bokhoven and Justin Zoch.

I think Gibson's ok, but most of you never got to hear the best two in my memory: Chris Economaki and Ken Squier. I've seen both of them get the fans on their feet at the end of a race those of us in the pits thought was boring as hell.
Dick.

Chris Economaki was THE VOICE of motorsports, whether it be Indy, NASCAR or the many, many dirt tracks events he did, like the Knoxville Nationals. Talk about a guy who knew his stuff and could make it exciting...
Jack Miller was "a fan with a micrphone" and you really learned to appreciate him over the years.
Pat Sullivan is outstanding, as well. I also like Justin Zoch and Rob Klepper and, for kicks, the "Mississippi Scoundrel" at Little Rock brings a unique experience to his work.
It's doubtful we'll ever hear the likes of guys like Economaki and Miller again. Different times now.

Johnny always does his homework and is as keen as anyone who ever sat behind a mike, he loves his job and it's reflected in his work. He's a Pro's Pro!
Scott Dalosio, Jack Miller and Pat Sullivan along with Wayne Meyer of Lincoln Speedway in PA are my all-time fav's. Having said that, I like them even more as people than for anything else, my bad. Take It Easy...

Mikey, put down the Canadian beverages. It's Wayne Harper and his partner, Bill Meyer at Lincoln.
