Aside from Daves inability to prepare a race track It has come to my attension that with car counts in the low teens in all the divisions, Mr. Swindell has placed A life time ban on one sprint car competetor for wittnsing A botchd tech inspection, by Pete Curto, at SMS they call this fight. I have also leared that the long time care taker of the speedway was 'relived' of his and his family's duties in the past weeks, mybe you noticed air stream trailer that has set up perminat camp right in front of the speedway bill board?( No its not pete curtos new home) It belongs to the strawberry farmer next door, It seems Dave graded over the farmers only accses to his land, so they set up camp on the small piece of land that is part of there lease. It just dosn't seem very smart to fire good employes, and keep people like Curto, To drop the ball on (preparing the race track) the biggest night of the year. Run off competetors, freinds, family, and sponsors(paying customers)of comtetitors. I seem to remember just before Dave got run out of hanford he started acting like this. Not very smart. And one more thing , never piss-off your next door neibor, not very smart.

I’m not a very good speller either, that’s why I use spell checker; BUT, misspelled words do not lessen the truth of his post.

I agree with you, KOP, proper spelling and grammer is important. Yet, I agree with fordfan as well. In this context, it isn't a big deal, I can still read and understand the post.

I understood it as well, I was just making an observation on the spelling (as in it was so off it was quite funny). Spelling sure isn't my best talent either. Thank god for spell checker!!!!

sprint2win, your question, how smart is swindle. The answer is, NOT very smart, but more amazing is that he is once again is running (ruining) a great race track. This is the kind of guy that would steal from a dead man and brag about it yet nobody seems to be smart enough to do anytying about it. So until somebody can think of a way to fix it, I guess we are just stuck with it. I'm just embarassed that he has outsmarted so many of us that know the end result before he even opens the gates. Just like Harry Schooler that stole from everyone more than once in the '50s and is still around today, nothing will ever happen to stop swindle and he knows it. (so might as well not even try)

I'm not a big fan of Mr. Swindell. However, he is getting the races finished at a decent hour for the first time in decades. We no longer have to leave before the feature so we can get the kids home. I also know that after 23 years of going to SMS (since I was 10) there was a lot of dead weight employed by SMS. There is even talk that some employees were stealing from the track. The family owners haven't made any significant improvements to the facility in all the time I have been going to the track. I'm not sure that Swindell is the answer, but I know he hired a marketing guy to help with sponsor issues. I talked to the guy (don't remember his name) and he told me of some of the things the track was trying to do. It sounded encouraging. He said it would take some time to make the improvements due to the lack of attention the track has had in the past. One noticeable feature are the race cars parked up on the walkway for fans to see up close. My kids (11 and 14) loved climbing in a stock car to check it out. Overall a cool experience for them. I hope the improvements continue. I'll wait and see before calling Mr. Swindell any names.

I have been calling around and asking some old racing friends about this Swindell guy and quite frankly I have yet to hear a single good thing. This of course is my gut feeling and nothing more but things dont smell right. I sincerly hope Mrs. Fort has a plan-b in the event this guy decides to skip town. It wouldnt be the first time...

I was there Sat. as well & I've never seen the track that awful in 20 years. It used to be a place that had alot of 1st time winners as it was very fast & narrow. I wanted a refund when I walked in a saw the track @ 6PM was already taking rubber & had absolutely no cushion or a chance of developing one.
As to the comment about the marketing guy... he should be fired! I heard a radio ad that mentioned Cary Kruseman & the stars of USAC/CRA! To top it off, Cory wasn't even running! I also heard a local interview with Swindell & the interviewer asked Dave if he was related to Sammy.... he said he didn't know but that he would check into it! What a crook!
If I ever go back, instead of using the Men's room, I'm going to pi$$ on the track.... maybe we all should because I don't think the water truck will make an apperance!

I'm not sure if the marketing guy handles the ads, but he has helped several drivers with sponsorship issues. Let's hope he can help with the speedway.

Maybe you should check your own grammer before you criticize another's spelling issues.

Cracks me up when people complain about other people's spelling when they themselves include spelling errors. Dude, the word is grammar.

Do I need to start complaining about reading comprehension, now? LOL.
Re-read my post......... I didn't complain about anybody's spelling. I was complaining about the grammar of the guy that started this whole thing by complaining about somebody else's spelling.
I am NOT a good speller, and never claimed to be one. By the way, I'm not the first person to spell it that way in this thread.

Hey, if we could've got a passing grade in English, we would've been Formula One fans.

Hey Guys! This shouldn't be about spelling and grammar! We should be thinking of ways to save the Santa Maria Speedway. I have seen many messages on the LMR site and am reading many things that concern me. 1. Is the current promoter in it for the long haul? 2. How come basic problems like concessions(new crew each week) have not been addressed after 8 race weekends? 3. How many other employees is Swindell going to force out? 4. Are there issues with the track that we don't know about? ( high debt from years back, additional high costs, insurance?) I could go on forever. I know there are at least some folks there who must do a good job for the speedway. They can't all be incompetent. Is the leadership at the track rewarding good employees and letting go of substandard ones? I have always enjoyed Pluhar's announcing, the ticket booth ladies are always helpful, the lady with the walkie-talkie is always nice and has helped my wife with a Ladies Room issue, the beer booth folks are always friendly, the SMS sponsor guy was great with my kids in letting them sit in the cars and letting me know about future races they might like to see. I even walked out with a few little freebies. So I know there is something to build on at SMS. Let's hope they can get their act together.

cabostorm, maybe this will help, there is a post above about Dave being asked if he is related to Sammy, you saw the answer. Years ago this was an issue and Sammy told Dave to keep his mouth shut or Sammy would shut it for him. Years ago, Dave stood in front of a meeting and said that he would promote SCRA at Handford, "without question, on a regular basis" it didn't happen. The results were exactly the opposite, Dave wouldn't pay the agreed upon purse and wanted to charge more at the ticket booth and back gate than the agreed upon price. He then announced there would be no SCRA races at Handford and cancelled the entire schedule. Dave is not worth spit so I'm done with this topic, but hope it helps bring to light an inside to your concern, Santa Maria is a great track in a great town, with excellent employee's, unfortunatly, it is in for some drastic changes, none of them favorable.
