Mike Spencer takes it on an absolutely terrible track followed by Davy Pombo. Rubber was showing in the god damn heats! When will someone with half a god damn brain prep that track like the Doug Fort days? I am sick and tired of the bullsh_t reasons of why these a__holes cant prep it right! This has become a complete joke, you took the finest surface in all of west coast sprint car racing and over the last 10 years and made a mockery of it! Dave Swindell is a complete imposter of a promoter...what an idiot. Am I mad? you bet! SM speedway has too good of a past to mix with Swindler and his bullsh_t!

Ford checked out showing his pavement experience on the rubber down track until a bleeder stuck open and he tangled with his teammate. Sheridan had a hard tire on and fell back initially having started on the poll then came on as the rubber got heavier and he could build heat into the tire. Sheridan tangled with Crawford, when Crawford's front axle broke. Spencer was patient, but with 2 to go his motor was missing badly yet he managed the win. Great job, Mike! Nights like this are good for tire sales.

Sounds like a re-run of the track at the last Hanford race. Glad I went to Altamont instead- At least I knew I was going to a pavement race when I showed up.

The only people that came out satisfied were the people with the Hoosier trailer. Oh, bye the way, the real main event was the factory stocks. I normally go down to the pits after the main event, but I was so disgusted that I left as soon as the sprint cars were off of the track. I think that only eleven cars were still running at the end and many of them had bald tires.

Boy! I don't know where you were at. That was one of the greatest races all year. The track wasn't the greatest, but, it kept coming back. The racing was excellent. We almost had a couple of new winners. The huge crowd was majorly entertained.
It seems like this type of surface provides a great show.

Yeah, the track was beautiful, if you like rubber down tire eating sh*t hole tracks. There is no excuse for those kind of conditions at a place where the weather is in the 70's all week long. I didn't talk to a single person in the stands that was happy about the track. In fact, every local i talked to said they cant believe how bad the place has been the last year and a half, and that Sat night was a new low for that place. I completely understand why a lot of the CRA teams have not supported this track the last couple years. I cant imagine that any of the 20 teams that showed up were happy about those conditions. I cant even imagine having to pay the tire bill after a night like that.

I think we have talked extensively on the subject Oak... looks like it is going to get worse before it gets better.
Looking at the videos the track looks like a friggen dragstrip. How
did Rodney manage to finish the race with the way he was smokin the
tires... hell yeah way to go every driver that made it to the end of
that race.

Yeah, you & i both know the reason why that place has gone down the drain.
Rod did a great job hanging on the last few laps considering the slicks he had for tires at the end of that deal. In fact, most of the drivers & teams did a great job considering the horrible track conditions.

Wow, sounds pretty bad. I'm glad I didn't waste my money and take the trip up there. I, too, used to love that track but I will never go back. It was bad the last time I went and apparently it hasn't gotten any better. Sad.

I have been going to Santa Meria sence the early 80's. The last time the CRA ran their I said I would not go back. I knew the car count would be low but I remember all the good racing that the CRA boys put on in the past so I road my Harley the 220 miles to see the AWSOME Sprints that I love. The track looked dry when I first arrived to me seat. When the first car hit turn one for hot laps and the dust was flying I new I had made a mistake going back to Santa Meria again. After the dry slick crap track , (for the second time in a row) I will not be returning To Santa Meria EVER AGAIN. I will be including Hanford as a track I will not be spending any of my hard earned money at EVER AGAIN. What a shame the promoters at Hanford and Santa Meria have destroyed two of the most exciting Sprint Car tracks on the west coast. I MISS ASCOT!!!

I have had ample time to think about the lack of track prep Saturday at Santa Maria Speedway. Still I am very, very dissapointed in the terrible condition of the surface. Anyone who thinks that was a good surface needs to have their head examined. Santa Maria has a legacy of perfectly moist and smooth, tacky clay. This crud they have been passing off as a decent surface is a complete joke. There was rubber and dust flying in the heats! The 360 non wing lap record is a mid 13 second lap. Most the cars Saturday ran mid 15 second laps.
I spoke at length with a guy that used to prep the track under Doug Forts direction back when Dougs health was failing. He said Doug had a long standing ritual of how and when he worked the track and that now they dont even do anything remotely close. He has offered his services but it seems Dave Swindell does things "his way or no way". When was the last time you saw muddy cars packing the track? How about clay covered cars outside the front gate? These are all things long standing during the good days at SMS. No more it seems.
Oh how I long for the days of Doug Fort and his understanding of entertainment value and quality racing surfaces.
Please someone step up and fix SMS before its too late.

Yikes! Hey bilgates, slow down buddy, I have heard Swindle called a liar, a cheat, and every other name you can think of, but NOT ONCE has any body ever proved it. I agree that he has been in charge when things went from good to bad (real bad) and will even admit I dislike the guy to the point I probably hate him, but you CAN'T just start calling the guy names like you did without proof, that does nothing to help the sport. I decided to stay home and miss one of my all time favorite tracks simply because he is in charge, but you don't see me coming on this board and posting my true feelings without some kind of proof that he is what everybody calls him. Give the guy a break, maybe it was just a one time slip up.

Your right, I shouldnt let my emotions get to me that way. I edited my last post. The others I will leave as that is the true way I felt the moment I wrote them. I do know people personally screwed by Mr Swindell however I will not drag the details of that out here. Sorry for being so passionate I am normally a very calm reserved type person. Again sorry.
