Willard "Duane" Quinn, 74, Oxford, NE died Monday (Jan. 16, 2006) at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.
He was born Aug. 11, 1931, in Wichita, Kan., to Joe and Mildred (Norman) Quinn. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1949. He attended Kearney State College.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954.
He married Carol Jean Mick in Enders on Feb. 6, 1955. They made their home in Oxford.
He worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads, retiring as a project engineer. He was also an announcer for the Northwest Kansas Racing Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Mick Quinn; and a sister-in-law, Sherry Mick.
Survivors include his wife, Carol of Oxford; four sons, Jim Quinn and wife, Laurie, Robert Quinn and wife, Richelle and Mike Quinn and wife, Dawn, all of Oxford, and P.J. Quinn and wife, Lesha of Mead; a daughter, Sis Quinn Best and special friend, Brock Yant of Oxford; son-in-law, Rob Best of Oxford; a brother, Jerry Quinn and wife, Kay of Oxford; a sister-in-law, Lana Minner and husband, Lyle of Topeka, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Willard was laid to rest in the Oxford Cemetery Oxford NE.

| ,64, of Kearney, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at home, after a three-year courageous struggle with bladder cancer. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at the Park Lawn Northland Chapel, with services at 10 a.m. Monday at the Northland Chapel. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kearney, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice. Cliff was born December 4, 1941, in Moberly, Mo., the son of Lyle and Mary Ruth (Montague) Woodward. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harry Dale Woodward. Cliff graduated from Edina High School in 1959, where he excelled in sports, especially track. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968. He moved to Kansas City in 1962, and worked for Ford Motor Company, and was a member of United Auto Workers Local 249, for 30 years before retiring in 1992. He later operated C-Woody Mowing & Bobcat in Kearney. He was a member of the Christian Church in Plevna, Mo., and the Excelsior Springs Golf Club. Cliff raced Sprint cars throughout the Midwest for over 20 years. He was inducted into the Knoxville Raceway Hall of Fame in 1996. Later on, he enjoyed playing golf, going to the boat, and going on vacations- the most memorable two being the celebration of his 40th wedding anniversary with his family at the Cayman Islands in 2004, and celebrating his 42nd wedding anniversary in January with friends in Yuma, Arizona. Cliff is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janice, of the home; two children, Darin Woodward and his companion Pam Wisecup, along with her daughter Allison and granddaughter Maggie, all of Kearney, Mo., and Debbie Johnston and her husband Theron of Holt, Mo., and a granddaughter, McLain. Cliff loved his family very much, and lived life to the fullest. He especially loved meeting his friends every morning at the Liar's table for breakfast. Cliff watched out for the little guy, as that was where he was from, and he never forgot his meager upbringing. We will miss his sense of humor, his orneriness, his laughter, and we will never forget him. He will have a place in our hearts forever, and we will love him forever. |

WENDELL BREWER OF SALLISAW PASSED AWAY AUGUST 31. FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS HE WAS THE CAR TO BEAT AT CRAWFORD COUNTY SPEEDWAY. OLD TIMERS WILL REMEMBER HIS FAMILAR BLUE CHEVELLE WITH A WING ON THE BACK AND THE NUMBER 101.

SALLISAW — Wendell “King of the Hill” Brewer, 67, of Sallisaw died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, in Sallisaw. He raced stock cars at the Crawford County Speedway.
He is survived by his wife, Diana; five daughters, Joetta and Mechelle Brewer, Connie Arnold and Wendy Rogers, all of Sallisaw, and LaDona Page of Broken Bow, Okla.; his mother, Gerturde Brewer; two sisters, Loise Langford of Alex, Okla., and Betty Atterberry of Newalla, Okla.; a brother, Kenny Brewer of Sallisaw; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Evard "Kerfoot" Humphrey #12: Oklahoma City, OK (1935-2007).
Evard Lee Humphrey, 72, of OKC, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007. He was born April 6, 1935 in OKC to Earl and Rose (Wiggins) Humphrey. He started racing Stock Cars in 1956 at Taft Stadium and won the Super Modified Championship in 1964 and 1966. He owned and operated Drive-in Auto Salvage and Midwest Auto Salvage until 1976. He owned and operated Humphrey Construction Company from 1977 until his death.
Evard loved his 1934 Chevrolet Coup and was currently restoring a 1948 Buick.
Evard leaves cherished memories with his loving wife, Pat Humphrey of the home; 2 daughters, Kathy Couch and her husband Dean of Choctaw, Karey Doss and her husband Terry of Broken Arrow; brother, Steve Humphrey and his wife Shirley of Bedford, TX; 5 granddaughters; 5 great grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and many loving friends. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations to the Last Frontier Council, Boy Scouts of America, 3031 NW 64, OKC. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 PM Wed., Nov. 14, 2007, at the South Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Wheatland, OK.

Harold Leep, Jr. was born on October 9, 1952 in Wichita, Kansas. He died on May 30, 2008. He was 55 years old. He is survived by his wife Alice, two sons Jeff and Maggie Leep and Lloyd and Heather Leep. He is also survived by his four grandkids Harlie and Reese Leep, Trey Leep and Alissa Hinshan. Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is also survived by his father Harold Leep Sr. of Muskogee, OK. He enjoyed sprint car racing, lettering signs, and spending time with his grandchildren. Few words cannot express the greatness of a man and all he has done for people and lives he has touched. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and were around him. A Memorial Service will be held at the State Fair Speedway on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 7:00 PM. The family requests that flowers be sent to 2722 Winston Rd., OKC, OK 73120 or make a donation to a charity of your choice.

Buddy Roy Purkey, passed away peacefully early this morning after a long bout with Cancer. Diagnosed in 2003 with Cancer, Bud along with his wife of 46 years Wanda Jean, set out to fight the battle as if they were preparing to race one of his legendary race cars.
Bud, a no nonsense kinda-guy, along with Wanda brought up their three children-Son's Mike and Allen along with Daughter Vicky. Instilled with the beliefs to be self sufficient, motivated, educated and prideful. Today the family, Wife and Mother Wanda Jean, along with Mike and wife Dena, Al and wife Sabrina, Daughter Vicky and husband Russell (Portwood) have provided Bud and Wanda with seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Bud began a career in the Auto and Salvage business right next to his Farm raising Cattle. Bud was a weekend hobby racer of the late 60's running the open-wheeled Super Modifieds at Nowata Oklahoma and later at Lakeside Speedway in Dewey. It wasn't until '74 or '75 that Bud switched to what would now be called a Late Model Stock Car, he continued to race when time would allow running under the Sanctioning of NDRA, NCRA, and MLRA. Bud continued to race when he felt he could, his last race was in 2006 at Coffeyville.
In 1991, Bud with Wanda by-his side, opened Stateline Speedway adjacent to their homestead property and began a new career of Track Owner and Operator. Bud was successful in having Sprints, Limited Late Models and Hobby Stocks competing at his track - the track closed in 2003 when Bud became too sick to run it.

Gerald "Jerry" O. Holm former Tulsa racer pased away at 67. Jerry was an account representative, He passed away Thursday May 8,2008. Services will be at 2:00 P.M on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 Moore Furneral Home Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st Tulsa, OK 74145.

1/23/08: Gene Paddock, 81, racer and retired machinist, died Tuesday. Memorial service 2 p.m. Thursday, Moore's Memory Funeral Home Chapel in the Tulsa area.
