I got this yesterday from Bill Sullivan. Congratulations to everyone at JPM.
Veteran Promoter John Padjen Named National Auto
Racing Promoter of the Year
By Bill Sullivan
ORLANDO, FL 2-14-07 Veteran racing promoter John
Padjen received the highest honor in the industry of motor
sports promotion this week when he was named the 2006 National
Auto Racing Promoter of the Year. Padjen was awarded the honor
for his decades of success in a variety of racing venues, including
the promotion of both Placerville Speedway and Chico‚s Silver Dollar
Speedway.
The Auto Racing Promoter of the Year is short track
racing‚s most prestigious award. It is awarded annually at
the RPM Promoters Workshop in Orlando, Florida during Daytona
Speedweeks which concludes with the running of the Nextel Cup
Daytona 500. This award originated in 1976 by the editors of
Racing Promotion Monthly, the trade newsletter for auto racing
promoters nationwide.
Recipients of the National Promoter of the Year award are
determined by voting among the motor sports promotion industry.
Voting is conducted in two phases with a preliminary ballot
nominating candidates within eight different regions. The eight
different candidates are named regional promoters of the year and
then appear on a secondary ballot for the final election which
determines the top racing promoter in the nation.
This is the fifth year that Padjen was named as a regional
nominee but it marks the first time in his stellar career that he
receives the highest honor. In addition to his success at
Placerville Speedway and Silver Dollar Speedway, Padjen‚s resume
includes a wide variety of racing promotions including the management
of the historical West Capitol Raceway in Sacramento,
the resurrection of the Silver Crown 100 champ car race at
the CalExpo mile in the mid 90`s and the promotion
of traveling campaigns including the Golden State Challenge Series
Sprint Cars and the Civil War Sprint Car Series. His success at Silver
Dollar Speedway for the annual Gold Cup Race of Champions has long been
recognized nationally as one of the biggest weeks of racing of the year
on the World of Outlaws tour.
Silver Dollar Speedway is currently the only facility in California
that operates on a successful Friday night program at the Silver Dollar
Fairgrounds. Since taking over the management of Placerville Speedway
in 1982, Padjen has turned a once ailing race program in a sierra
foothill community into one the most successful Saturday
night racing programs.
With decades of hard work and experience under his belt,
John Padjen still operates both of his facilities in a
very hands on fashion, dealing with day to day operations ranging
from event sponsorships, human resources and track maintenance.
His son Alan Padjen manages Placerville Speedway while wife Robbie
continues to work full time managing the business office with the
assistance of their daughter Johna. Additionally, a dedicated staff
at both facilities assists in his career being such a
success.
"This is really an honor to receive this award, it`s not
something I expected," said Padjen. "I owe a greatdeal of credit to
my family and employees for their dedication and hard work. I would
not be receiving this without the hard work of my wife, my son, daughter
and everyone that works for us. This is a great honor."
Fellow nominees for the 2006 Promoter of the Year title included
2002 winner Larry Edwards of Devil Bowl‚s Speedway in Texas, Greg and
Steve Rubin of Husets Speedway in South Dakota; LynnPhillips and Alfred
Gurley of Talladega Short Track in Alabama; the Nuckles Family for Columbus
Motor Speedway in Ohio; Bruce Rogers of Grandview Speedway in Pennsylvania.
The past nominees were joined by first timers Mark Arute
of Stafford Motor Speedway in Connecticut and the duo Ray Marler and
Ken Schrader for I-55 Speedway in Missouri.
Padjen will open the 2007 racing season
at Silver Dollar Speedway on March 9 with the two-day Mini Gold Cup
and season opener for the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series. The
Placerville Speedway will open several weeks earlier than in the past this
season as well, starting the year on Saturday, March 17 with the California
Sprint Car Civil War Race Series. For more information on either of these
events visit
www.johnpadjenmotorsports.com or contact the track
business office at (916) 969-7484.

Nice to see the Padjens and the orgaization get recognized for a job well done. It takes more than the head arm-waver to get that award. Congrats to all.
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool,
but then I'm not 16 so therefore my opinion is of no
consequence...
