" Looking to curb confusion among fans, especially those new to the sport, lapped cars will now go to the tail of the field for realignment on a restart, thus making it easier for the fans to identify which cars are battling for the lead. Also, cars one or more laps down will receive one of their laps back when they restart at the tail end of the field."
WHY??? In almost 50 years of watching all different types of dirt track racing I cannot remember a lapped car passing the leader to get a lap back under green flag racing! I like putting lapped cars behind those on the lead lap but do not see the point in giving them a lap back that they never would have gotten under green flag racing.
Man I hate this NAPCAR crap! First provisionals now a "lucky dog" rule. More give aways.
Maybe next year if a team is down by 7 or more at half time of the Super Bowl the NFL can give that team a free touchdown to start the 2nd half. No dumber than giving lapped cars credit for laps they did not complete. Run 24 laps and get scored for 25!!!

If so called fans can't tell who is "battling" for the lead, then they need to go watch something else! Everyone wants to see passing in sprint car racing, but with this deal it gives the guy who hasn't lapped anyone a FREE PASS. A car can have a half a lap advantage go south in a heartbeat when getting into lapped traffic, then finally get the pass and open up his lead again and have it all for not if a caution comes out. Make it equal for everybody to have to pass the lapped cars. What a Joke!

I remember 1 night @ Limaland for an All Star show with some family members. Man it was kind of hard to keep up with what was going on with the passing & dust. They had a caution & my uncle said who's doing what. I told him & no sooner than they let the green fly that the top 5 were passing each other like a bunch of screaming bee's trying to sting some ass. I kept up with the top 5 for him until the race was over.

Matbe we should start having double file restarts. If the track is a 3/8 or smaller, all lapped cars on the outside. On the superspeedways, err I mean 1/2 mile tracks lapped cars on the inside. You have to take this new rule as an insult to the fans. Dirt doesn't think you're smart enough to know what's going on.

I applaud the move.
There is nothing more anti-climatic to the end of a race to have the caution come out with 2 laps to go, then when the cars restart, there are five lapped cars between the leader and second place.
As far as questioning "lap cars get their lap back" - that is standard procedure for almost all short track organizations (and local tracks) that remove lap cars to the back of the field.
I'm there to watch a race, and I think this change could make the show better!

If you are running 16th and chasing down 15th, with the leader having just passed you, do you want to be a lap down on the 15th place guy when you restart right behind him? Don't see the big deal, or why you would be a lap down...course I've seen this rule at Knoxville since the beginning of time...

I like the new heat race format. But maybe would like to see a 5 invert so the fastest guy has to pass one car to make the show. As for the others I'm not hot on. Take out the lapped car with 5 laps to go instead of the whole race. I think that would be a nice way to get a good finish. After all this is really what they are wanting for the TV AUDIANCE. Don't like the lap back rule. That is horrible. I WANT TO SEE SPRINT CAR RACING. NOT SPRINT CAR RACING W/ NASCAR RULES! I know they want new fans but how about those that have been fans forever. I would like to know what fans they are talking to specifically.

I wonder what rocket scientist thought this rule up. Stupid with a capital S!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why take the advantage away from a guy who has worked the whole race to lap these cars & then put the outcome in jeopardy because somebody in the grandstand can't figure out who is leading or running 2nd or 3rd... PITIFUL

When was the last/first time you ever saw a lapped car add anything to a race, especially near the end? They have screwed things up plenty of times though, wouldn't you agree. The rule is a no-brainer and a positive one, get over it. As for the heat races, the idea and genius of the 4 car invert is the way they have reformatted the dash, hello! In the past just making the show had you in the dash and the big emphasis was on qualifying, now the faster cars have to RACE their way into the dash. I think this will allow a lot of different cars into the dash as well with bigger fields this year. The heat races now have more meaning like they used to a few years back when the heats were sometimes better than the A-Main. Take It Easy....

Fastest cars in each heat don't need to pass ANY cars to make the A and only 2 to make the dash. Should be thrilling!!!
What NAPCAR rule will they adopt next? Top 15 in WoO owner points get a provisional in every A main?

HA, some of these same people bitching are some of the same ones that will buy a ticket.
If they don't show up to buy a ticket they are still bitching about something they will never attend.

Like it or not, give Dirt some credit for trying something different. I'm sure they are aware of the complaints of single-file racing and boring heat races. Not sure if this is the answer, but I am glad to see them try to change things a little.
Personally, give me heat race passing points anytime.

sounds silly to me. and worse than nascar. doesn't nascar have only one lucky dog. not all cars a lap down. I would rather see rule changes to the cars to even the playing field, instead of making the leaders pass more cars than those chasing them.
Sure we all have seen that back marker screw up and take ot the leader. It's gonna happen and it's still gonna happen since they will start in back it should be only a lap or two before the are caught again.
who knows maybe well see a lapped car who wins someday. that would be a good finish .

Points, caught in a lap or two, lol, I don't think so. Besides, they will be caught and passed at speed, not screwing up a restart like they so often do, which by the way is the MAIN point for getting them out of there. They have no chance to win and only a chance to mess things up, put 'em to the tail. Knoxville has done it weekly for a long time and they have great shows on a regular basis. You will also see some big dogs getting lapped this year, heck, most of the Posse were lapped in Florida and some of the big dogs as well. I can't wait till Steve has to go to the tail and gets pi$$ed and comes up through the field, it's happened before and it might happen again. Take It Easy.....
PS Drew, there have been people slamming the Outlaws in this forum for over 10 years and that ain't gonna change, most of them don't go anyway and still bring out the classic wives tales a couple times a year, then they get spanked, lol......

The way it was explained when I was at Volusia is as follows:
Lap cars go to the tail of the field but DO NOT get their lap back. Obviously in an effort to make the race action more exciting. If it's another rubber down track-there is really no way of making it exciting though.

If there are 5 cars in between 1st and 2nd there is a reason for that. 1st OUTDROVE 2nd! this is definitely the biggest bullshit I've seen in dirt track racing. And your thoughts on the standard procedure of dirt track racing are all off man. every other series or local track may very well move those lapped cars from the front........BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY GET THEIR LAP BACK. They can't suddenly fly back through the field and pass the leader and win......they are not on the same lap. The only positions they can improve are those on the same lap - 1 lap down.
If dirt track/ sprint car racing keeps this kind of crap up I'll have to switch my priorities to my 2nd favorite sport........which happens to be the best sport in the world (although midwestern rednecks strongly disagree.....go figure) and yes that is SOCCER.
By the way.......these same redneck dumbasses that bash soccer because they can't understand the strategy to it are the same sort of idiots DIRT just made this rule for. Jokers probably too drunk to keep a good eye on who is on what lap and where.
