32 midgets roaring through turn one and two, down the back chute into three and four and all 32 past the start finish line. I've seen a lot a racing at Manzy through the years but when they all made it the first lap, then the second...32 midgets roaring around the big half mile, that sound was like no other that has ever came out of that joint, ever!! I couldn't tell you who lead the second lap, I didn't even care. I was in the top row looking down at that spectacle, a word I wouldn't normally use and I was clapping and grinning like "my guy" had just won the race. I got my moneys worth in the first two laps of the first of three main events for the evening.

USAC killed the old classic but like the mythical Phoenix, a new classic arose from the ashes.

I don't know how I got so full of it! So what!

KOP, was it worth the trip? Stupid question. Next time, we'll have to find more time.....

TOPROW see you next time. Kenny

Dayum right it was worth it! I told a few that you can just tell this event can become an annual 'must see' deal. Between Chili Bowl and the "Copper On Dirt", guess I better plan on returning all my future x-mas gifts for $$$$ to offset the 'ol budget......LOL

That was some awesome racing Fish. I do agree we need to hook up more next time. How about that Stenhouse kid? I have watched him back home in those 'wangers' from time - time, but man how he used that rubber to his advantage was really cool to see!

Go Fast - Go Left!

I HATE pill draws but will gladly suffer through it next year. What an awesome weekend! The ONLY thing that could make it better is for Perris to offer up the same program on either the prior or following weekend!

Perris might be a little small for the Silver Crown Cars but I would love to see the same large, quality field of Midgets at the PAS that ran at Manzanita.

My 2 cents would be to run the midgets on the small track because they get too strung out on the big track.  Also the midgets contributed to the rubber going down because they run soft tires (IMHO).  From a fan's perspective, its a great show.  From the racer's perspective, not so much.  2 long days at the track to hot lap 2x, run 1 heat and 1 main makes for a lot of downtime.

Like RichCee said,it's great for the fans but not for us racers. Not only is it long days at the track and only limited racing, but we ran on Friday night for no money, even though it still cost us money to put on the show and it's a lot more than just the cost of our pit passes being spent.Plus it sucked spending 4to5 hours sitting in the truck in line just to be able to get in the pits to unload and then have the same ordeal to be able to load up after Saturday night.

So I hope the fans realize what kind of stuff we have to deal with to be able to put on a show for them at times, while a lot of you were having a nice lunch somewhere or already in your cozy bed, we were either sitting in truck or at the track just WAITING!

Yep, I mentioned to more than one person that you guy's were running for free Friday and that you were not to happy about it and the soft tires from the midgets rubbered up the track more than I thought it would BUT some of us drove long miles and were standing in line way before all the trailers were in Friday morning and were back in line even earlier the next day to get good Gen Adm seats for Sat and had long drives ahead of us after the show.In fact some of the trailers were out way before me and I didn't go down to the pits.
I was sitting with guy's from all over the place, Indiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, California, Washington State, you name it...We all have choices and you made you're choice to race. What car are you affiliated with or drive? I would really like to know because a lot of us made big sacrifices to watch you run and I'm curious as to who you are. Nice lunch, cozy bed, a kid? Step up.

I have to say, this year the program lacked a little fairness for the teams but was certainly happy to be a part of it. I bet next year things will be better as far as racing more on the first day. I was glad that the midgets ran the big track as some times when both tracks are run it really makes turn four narrow coming off as the cars get launched coming off low. As fas as down time goes, I would wait twice as long to see Bud Kaeding run high in that Silver Crown again. It was spectacular. The worst part of the whole weekend was having to smell those ribs cook'n and me on a diet.

As far as the getting in the track goes, I think all these promoters go to the same siminar on how to upset the highest paying customers they have with the least reguard or caring as to run a smooth and less stressful opening. It always seems to me that they get a call on the morning of raceday about the fact a race is being held at their track and it was a total and complete surprise.

Never the less, I can't wait untill next year, Ray

Well BigFish,

I've been working on sprint cars for 27yrs and have run numerous teams throughout the years as a crew chief and have won a couple of championships in the original CRA,so I'm hardly a kid.I maintain the Preistley # 7 car and on race day I'm the chassis and shock specialist for the team. So I think I'm qualified to voice my opinion on the situation.

I never said nobody else sacrificed things to be there and yes I was there on my on free will and would be again, but there are a lot of b.s. things that happens behind the scenes that you the paying customer don't know about. Like Mr. Stansberry stated these promoters are pretty good at pissing off the people that have the most on the line.

Well CRA91, there are a few "fans" out here who have racing family's and backgrounds and are not as naive as you might think when it comes to the politics of promoters etc. The promoters and track owners knew what they were doing when they opened the door for USAC and used CRA's name as leverage.

I'm a little tired myself and I'm no spring chicken anymore either but that last paragraph of yours was sh** coming out sideways. Get some rest.

P.S. hopefully they learned something because it will be bigger next year.

Just what I thought, another message board expert. It's amazing everyone can voice their opinions on here, but when one of us racers voice ours were called whiners and yet were the ones that are most effected by some of these happenings.

You asked me who I was and I told you,so like you said to me STEP UP and tell me who you are and how your involved.

OK, I saw how long it took you guy's to get in Friday because I was there and the complaining about that and other things that slowed things down in the pit's was fine. but bringing in the fan and how we have it so easy, sleeping late, great lunches and all is just so much crap. If you want to know more about where I come from go back four or five pages and read my post- Topic: WHO WINS ? The fans, drivers ,owners,or

I'll say it again, plenty of the fans came a lot farther than you did and with air-fair or gasoline spent plenty and appreciate you guys to no end, every last one of you. The pit's looks like a living creature from the top row we were talking about all the work that was going on.. But no kidding you sounded like a kid! Read what you said.

First off, I never stated the fans had it easy, the comment about the nice lunch and cozy bed was a generalized statement, was everyone that attended the races there from 9am till way after 3am on Saturday? I know that some of you fans probably was and your die hards just like the racers are,the comment was more directed towards the casual fan who does get to go have a nice lunch before coming to the track and are home and in bed after the races way before we can even get our trailers in to get loaded up and get out of there. I know that when we finally got out of there it was 3:30 am and there were a number of teams still loading up. That was the point the comment was about. Have a NICE EVENING.

Boy,could we use some more casual fan's,like I said most of the people around me were from out of state and I drove about 440 miles just coming straight to and from, went home to Prescott Fri, got up early and drove back down Sat.

I was about 10 and down on Van Buren where some of the racers that my dad knew from back home in Indiana were staying and they were partying it up after the race at the fairgrounds and I don't remember what I said but I was chased down, panced and thrown in the pool.

Maybe some things never change, except I don't run now. You guy's always have a competitive and fine looking car. Good luck to ya this year. Kenny

Ray,

You didnt miss much on the ribs (just read title of post, that is where my ribs came from, LOL!). I bought some on Friday and they were terrible. No seasoning and burnt! The sandwich and fried chicken I had on Saturday was about 1000% better! Thanks Sylvia and Rose! With the car count they had hopefully they can increase the purse a bit for Fridays show! I agree that the teams bear too much of that! I heard that they had about 40-50 cars more than expected with an average of say 6 people per car that was a heck of a lot of cash at the back gate that could of been added to the purse. It sure seemed like the back gate covered the purses with the amount of people in there

As for running the midgets on the small track where would you have put the cars and crews? Midgets on the big track are insane but having 32 of there was awesome. How about 29 sprint cars on the big track?

Anyway, I hope Perris can run this program next year! I would love to see more teams come out for the two week show!

Just one request, Perris run on the weekend that Manzy ran this year. That way I can rope by day the USTRC roping in the City of Industry and race at night!

Joe

CRA91... You the guy I met at the chili bowl with old Oakhurst?

I hate them casual fans, living nearby, nice cruise to the racetrack... guys like that turn4rob fellow... make me sick.

Anyways... congrats on your run at the PAS a couple of weeks back.

I may make it this weekend. But I doubt it... although, it has been a while since I got stuck in traffic for three hours trying to get to the pas.

Buzzard, I did that stuck in traffic one time, here is what I found. Two things, one, if your on the freeway around the riverside area before 1 or 2 you shouldn't get stuck in traffic, and two, check out google earth, there are a lot of ways to get to the track that you wouldn't normally know about. I think there is at least 10 back roads that will get you there.

hey JW...

My main hassle is well before Riverside. From where I live in LA im pretty much doomed to take one congested freeway to another just to get to the place where I can utilise those backroads. I will have another look...
