many teams are out of provisionals - not even sure they could be used if you are DQ'd for noise (dB) violations?

Oh I'm sorry, but T-Mac has a point, but he is being a baby. There has been wrong calls at times this year in the WoO and I didn't see any other drivers pack up and run off with the tails between their legs. Jac got screwed a couple of times this year and he took it like a man and still pressed on.

T-Mac, time to grow up a little.

Tmac said in his interview on dirt vision tonight that he "was only making a statement, and that Joey was called on this same issue last year and was let go to run that same evening" Tmac also stated that there is to much "inconsistency with the WOO".

FWIW, the "sound police" that we are inflicted with at all California State Fairgrounds tracks are state employees. They are not subject to the wishes of WoO or JPM. The sound must be less than 95 db or the car must be corrected before running again. The penalty is up to the sanction.

TMac was originally called over the sound limit on his time trial run on Fri. As a result of that, he was assigned 17th fast time even tho his rerun was again fast time, which is the normal procedure for WoO, I believe. Based on his Fri. points he was scheduled to start 9th in the B today, behind Sides and Schatz. It would have been difficult for him to make the top 4 and transfer to the A, but Sides did it from 7th.

I would imagine his "statement" is falling on deaf ears. The other cars met the limit or they wouldn't be running. The reason for the limit is to extend the life of fairground tracks who are constantly being surrounded by housing developments (and you can see the new houses at the edge of the west parking lot at SDS). People move in and then complain, same old story. With the strict limit, the fairgrounds boards and promoters have a reasonable retort - the sound is limited and will remain limited and it is exactly what it was long before you moved in. So either live with it, or find another place to live. Seems reasonable to me.

Actually, Chico Fan, Terry stated that ALL cars were over the 95 db limit according to the official doing the testing. Just wanted to point out that 1 fact that noone has mentioned yet.

Why did Henry not simply ask the person who called him?

Or was the substance of your phone call...

Henry: "Hello".

Caller: (mumbles) "McCarl hauler is packed up and rolling out of the pits".

>Click<

Stunned for a moment and not believing what he had just heard, Henry scamps to the 'puter and of course-if what just happened is posted on a Message Board, for sure the information will be accurate and the mystery will reveal itself...

Just messing around Henry, after you sort some more mail, a drink is on me.

From what I know, they didn't change a thing on the 2nd run and was legal. Joey and 4 other cars last year were DQ'd and were all rescinded before continuing the night. Inconsistency is the point.

I think the WoO had better take a hard look at what they have been doing as of late? With the cost of staying out on the rode, and some teams getting tired of the questionable calls. Could some teams be looking at doing something different for 09?

OK. like others have pointed out, in CA. it is the State that runs the sound level meter and decides who is too loud....so WoO officials have little or no input in disallowing times. And if some times were DQ'd, then subsequently OK'd last year, well then the State let that happen, too....

Blaming WoO officials for something that the State controls is just wrong...funny, but a few nights ago I was rereading an old(circa 1985) Open Wheel Magazine where the author described sound level issues with CA. tracks. And even then, drivers were complaining.......and they still are....

Well, since I lost about 60% of my hearing, I didn't notice ANY of the cars being too loud!Smile Wink

Yes, I was surprised last night when I saw T-Mac pulling out. Was sitting within 20 feet of the pit board so I went down and "shur nuf" he was crossed off from the B!Frown

I don't like mufflers and plenty of us who have sat in the stands at Manzy, Ascot, Ventura etc when it was open comp remember the cars literally shaking the grand stands. The funny thing is that when I bring someone new to the track they usually say how loud they are. I always say "you should have heard them without mufflers".

The truth is tracks like Manzy and many California, heck tracks all over the states have had housing and such move in close to the tracks. The reality is that many tracks across the western states and probably all over would have had to close without them. So I have a love hate relationship for em because they do keep tracks open that otherwise would have had to closed.

I don't, help me guys, remember anyone getting kept out of a race at one of our BIG non wing shows but my memory has been known..what was I saying?

while the state may be in charge of saying who is loud and if they can continue to run, i am not so sure they have much controll over the rules as far as the penalty or the reversile of the penalty. also if the rule is so strict, why if all the cars were over the dba limit, were they not all penalized? oh, wait. then no one would be able to time in faster than 17th!!. lol.

That what I was getting at with my statement that I couldn't remember anyone missing a big non wing race, say at the Western or the Oval Nationals because of a muffler infraction. I guess another question that would fit would be, why not?

Ya, we all blow up from time to time, me no exception. Maybe I should explain a bit more. The only difference between us blowing up and someone like T-Mac or Tim Kaeding (using his car earlier this year as a battering ram when he lost) is they are in the spot light a lot. Someone like T-Mac, has a lot of fans, and people who look up to him, kids and adults alike. When people pay their hard earned money to come out to see their favourite drivers like T-Mac and he packs up his car and sends it on its way in protest, well, If I was one of them, I would be pissed. When someone crashes, members from other crews come to help out to get that driver back out on the track. Why? Its because they all know that everyone of them win when all the cars are out on the track. After all its all about entertainment, entertaining the fans. When T-Mac sent his car on its way, he lost a bit of creditability and maybe a few fans too. And that is what I mean when I say he has to grow up a bit. We all do, but when you are in the spotlight, you have to be that much more mature and think about the repercussions before you act.
