$10,000 TO WIN 400-LAP MIDGET RACE AT ANDERSON JULY 26

JULY 17, 2008 --- Anderson (Ind.) Speedway hosts its second USAC “special event” July 25-26 as Midget racers from across the country are expected to compete in this year’s inaugural Anderson 400 Midget Classic.

The race will be the longest for USAC Midgets since the 500-lappers held at the Indianapolis Speedrome in the 1980s. The Anderson 400 Midget Classic is actually longer in terms of miles, 100 to be exact.

The 400-lap race is set for an 8 pm green flag on Saturday night, July 26, with practice and qualifying on Friday, July 25. Friday practice is from 10 am to noon and qualifying takes place from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. Qualifying races are slated for Friday night. An autograph session featuring the starting field of 34 drivers is scheduled for 6 pm on Saturday.

Drivers will be aiming at the $10,000 winners share of a total purse of $60,000.

Few tracks have as much USAC Midget history as Anderson Speedway, which has hosted a total of 118 USAC events since the 1961 inaugural. Eighty-four of those have involved Midgets and race fans will certainly recognize the name of the Anderson’s first USAC Midget race winner – A.J. Foyt!

Bobby East is the most recent USAC National Midget race winner at the storied oval, winning a 50-lapper there this April.

The longest USAC Midget races in Anderson history were 100-lappers won by Gene Hartley (1961), Johnny White (1963), Bobby Grim (1965) and Bob Tattersall (1966).

Tradition is nothing new for Anderson Speedway, which plays host to the nation’s richest pavement Sprint race each year – the marathon Pay Less “Little 500.” This inaugural Anderson 400 Midget Classic is expected to begin a new tradition and should produce some spectacular competition at one of America’s most competitive short tracks.
