SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Fred Rahmer, of Salfordville, clinched his 11th career Cindy Rowe Auto Glass PA Speedweek Series title with a win in Sunday night's 30-lap Jan Opperman Memorial 410 sprint car race at Selinsgrove Speedway.
The $5,000 victory at the wheel of the Miller Bros. Chevrolet No. 51 marked Rahmer's 12th of the season and 30th of his career in Speedweek competition. Rahmer now owns 54 career sprint car victories at Selinsgrove Speedway, ranking him third on the track's all-time win list behind Ray Tilley and Mitch Smith.
Rahmer was the night's fast qualifier with a lap time of 17.966 seconds. He was the only repeat winner in the 18th annual PA Speedweek series, having won the Tuesday night event at Grandview Speedway. Three of the eight events in the series were rained out this year.
Second-place starter Sean Michael powered into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Michael was chased by polesitter Greg Hodnett and third-place starter Keith Kauffman.
The event's first caution flag unfurled on lap six when Duane Mausteller looped his sprint car in turn two. On the ensuing restart, sixth-place starter Fred Rahmer drove by Kauffman for third and set his sites on Hodnett.
At the midway point of the race, Hodnett and Rahmer reeled in Michael in traffic. On the 17th circuit, Rahmer passed Hodnett for second and quickly gained real estate on the leader. Racing down the frontstretch on lap 19, Rahmer made the winning pass by Michael at the start/finish line.
Following Rahmer's pass for the lead, a lap 19 caution flag turned into a red flag fuel stop. When the race resumed, Rahmer pulled away from the field and posted a 2.2-second margin of victory over Michael, Kauffman, Hodnett, and Jeff Shepard.

How many times has he beaten the kid in that 15?
The hopeless desire to outrun Bud Grimm's Fords is
why central PA became the toughest place to race on
the planet. Even the KING couldn't run with Casey
Luna's Fords on a tacky track. It's a crying shame
that current car owners failed to notice.

I guess we'll find out next week at the Williams Grove Summer Nationals. Although, Leppo was the one who stole the thunder last year... Posse! Posse! Posse!

Lapped traffic again with the big boys last night, sheesh. What's the average finish with the All-Stars and Outlaws this year, 20th or so???? Winning weakly races will still get you in the Hall of Fame, ask Keith K. You asked for it, lol. Take It Easy.....
PS When you bring up Knoxville don't forget to include the backwards slide in the shuffle and A-Main final EVERY year. Still your best though as last week showed, should also prove the Outlaws dominates the top dozen or more drivers in the country like most people already know......

I've only been able to go to races the last 2 seasons (worked every weekend in high school, went away to college), but I've noticed the same thing. What I don't understand, is that against the locals he certainly is consistently the best, but when the Outlaws come around he has been nowhere near the best local against them. I honestly think the PA hopes rest with the younger drivers (Leppo, Layton, Darrah) as opposed to the veterans (Rahmer, Hodnett, Shaffer) next week. I will say Fred's time trial performance last week was uncharacteristic and very impressive, it would be nice to see that when the circus shows up. I still think it's an upset anytime the locals do win, but hey, how many people get to see their favorite "team" upset the favorites 45% of the time? Regardless of what happens, the atmosphere will be great and the #15 will be the man to beat.

He usually doesn't time well with the Outlaws. This last visit I think he did time well but was beaten by a great performance by Doug Esh in his heat and that cost him. If Rahmer can time well, he's a real threat to win next weekend.

45% of the time, huh? Grandview, Lincoln, Port Royal and the Grove and it's much less than 20% of the time with the VAST majority of them at America's Slowest Half Mile. This is such old news I can't believe I'm typing this, lol. Take It Easy....

Me either, since there was no need too? I was referring to a post above mine regarding next weeks Summer Nationals. Going back to 2000 the locals have won at the Grove 13 times vs 16 for the Outlaws. I then busted out my college skills to figure out that 13 of 29 is about 45%. The Outlaws are tough; but being full-time, corporate backed teams that are racing in the top professional winged 410 series, it would be kind of embarrassing if they weren't, ya know? Hopefully the locals can put up a good fight, but it's a great atmosphere regardless, and there's a coin flipping chance that at nights end I can toast a local. That's all
