World of Outlaws (28 Cars)
Welcome Mat Scott Winters, Ryan Anderson, Bronson Maeschen, Matt Wasmund
MIA Defending track champ Mark Dobmeier (more on this), Billy Alley, The Dude (way to decide to not bring the car down Forbrook), Chad Meyer, Micah Schliemann, Johnn Cressman, Gary DeWall, Lynton Jeffrey
VIP The usual suspects for this big show; Wertz, BT24, and a couple Lil J's
Time Trials (2 laps each) Jason Meyers (5th out) set quick time at an established time of 10.569, the fastest time of the year and just a little off compared to the track record of 10.402 set by Terry McCarl. Paul McMahan was 2nd quick and the rest of the top 12 hitting the invert were: Donny Schatz, Terry McCarl, Craig Dollansky, Jac Haudenschild, Justin Henderson, Steve Kinser, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Kerry Madsen, Gregg Bakker, & Scott Winters.
Time Trials Grade: C+; the track widened out quickly after about the 8th driver out and it was all about going below the cushion in 3 and 4 to get a good time to make the invert. Winters made a great lap to hit the invert by .001.

Heat 1 Finish: 55 D1 14 8K 9 24/ 83 28 4W 96
Heat 1 Notes: Flat left rear and broken rear end on the first lap for Maeschen made a complete restart. Madsen took off again with the point with the lead to complete his 6th WoO heat win of the year. A single file affair gave Henderson the dash-redraw spot ahead of Meyers who was looking for a way around him on the top side of the track. McCarl faded big time but held on in order to hold onto his time and evidentially make the dash on his time.

Heat 2 Finish: 2 11 11x 6 7s 18/ 12L 57x 71R
Heat 2 Notes: Kinser waited until the last absolute second to take off in order to send Bakker a row back since he took off "early". Dunno why he waited, as it was Gregg effing Bakker, but he did. This was the move of the night, moving Dollansky up a row, and he took off with the heat win, his 7th of the year, as Kinser held onto the last dash spot comfortably. The rest of the heat was pretty blah, as usual. Even though the track was widening out.

Heat 3 Finish: 15H R19 15 21 5c 20/ 9M 23w 33
Heat 3 Notes: Schatz was the class of the field even though Haud took the dash spot from him. The Report's driver dropped out of a transfer after a horrible start with the WoO reg Hafertepe. The car was not looking good one bit at all. The bottom was the fast way around even though the track was definitely widening out unlike the last time when the circus came to town.
Heat Grades: C; they were better this time around compared to the last, but they still sucked compared to the heats seen at Knoxville last month, and compared to the heats at Knoxville coming at the Nationals.

B Feature Notes: Stewart got the jump on the quick Last Chance Showdown even though Winters was slightly running him down. The track continued to widen out for what hoped to be an amazing feature later on.
B Feature Grade: C+; the track widened out, aforementioned. Otherwise a hot lap session for the top 2 finishers for the A feature.

Dash Finish: R19 2 11 14 D1 15 55 6 15H 24
Dash Grade: B-; Schatz showed how fast he was coming from 9th to 6th on a pretty narrow track. It looked like Dollansky let Haud by to win the dash to gain an outside position for the feature. Haud earned his 3rd dash win of the year while in the process. A lot of searching going on throughout in order to find a line for the 35 lap feature.

Initial start was tremendous as Dollansky shot off the outside pole, flying by Haud into the first corner to take the lead. The D1 decided to make the locals lose all hope as he lost a few spots on the first few laps to Madsen, Hafertepe, & McCarl (with the wing back in the first few laps). Within the first 4 laps, Dollansky was already into traffic. Dollansky hit the frontstretch wall on lap 10 but no immediate damage occurred to the Snap On machine.
Major traffic occurred on lap 12 for Dollansky and this allowed Schatz to start picking people off on the bottom; first Haud and then Meyers to climb into 2nd on lap 20, as he blew by the "Huset's favorite" after he was chopping him off at the last WoO race. Schatz & Meyers continued to battle for position but Schatz would hold on while dominating the bottom side of the track while Dollansky was maneuvering on the top side of the track through traffic.
The top side of 3 and 4 began to lay slight rubber within the first 10 laps and that was the preferred way around over on that side of the speedway. Schatz would make his ground up on the low side of 1 and 2 as Dollansky rode "The Fonz" all the way around. Rubber began to set for good with 11 to go on that high side of 3 and 4, and all the fast guys would be smoking the tires following each other. Schatz was making his way forward through that bottom, but a caution would ruin that effort as Madsen had right side problems to the right front and right rear, causing him to stop in turn 1 with 10 to go.
The restart saw Dollansky leading Schatz, S. Kinser, Meyers, Haudenschilde & McCarl. Dollansky had an amazing start and would take off, dominate traffic and win his 2nd race of the year at Huset's with the WoO to the delight of the local crowd. The win was also his 2nd WoO and 6th career 410 win at the track. Rubber set in completely during the last restart as the Hoosiers filled the air with the breeze from the east. Schatz may have had something for the 2 in lapped traffic but was nothing in open air, but extended his point lead with the 2nd place finish over Meyers in the points. S. Kinser was 3rd, Meyers 4th, and Haud 5th. Lap leaders were Dollansky 1-35.
Finish: 2 15 11 14 R19 15H 24 6 83 8K/ D1 21 7s 23w 18 20 9 5c 11x 12L/ 57x 4w 96 55
A Feature Grade: B; good to see Dollansky hold onto the victory as most were predicting to see Schatz come up through the field for the victory again.
360s Not on the bill tonight but will return Sunday for regular action. Stretches, beer/food/piss break for members of the VIP. The Report's buddy's dad did end up taking the hobby stock feature, picking his way through the field. Congrats to Craig.
Wertz Quotes of the Night: 7:40 PM "Thank you Johnny Gibson for the free advertising tonight, even though I would never sponsor the 4w again in my life." 7:53 PM "They got all they could out of that squirrel." - After a time trials effort by one of the 28 drivers. 9:55 PM "OH MY GOD! We got to go to the tape!" (After the hobby stock feature finish which was decided by about a foot).
FOAW: Winters was about the only local to hold his spot throughout the feature. Henderson faded (shocking) and the others, either didn't show (Dude, Alley), or were nothing come the feature (Henderson, Bakker, Peters, etc.). The Report can smell a big victory coming this Sunday for the 23w, indeed.
Crowd Pleasing Moment #1: To the Dollansky victory when most in the VIP thought it would be a Schatz route. It can't get much better than that, other than a Dollansky Nationals Saturday night victory!
Crowd Pleasing Moment #2: Watching the D1 fade from the 3rd row to finish 11th on a track that laid rubber the last 10 laps. It was great watching you fade, as usual, and finish outside the top 10 when it comes to the big boys.
WTF: Not much to WTF, since Meyers decided not to chop off and cut off Schatz in the corners. Good to see the 15 blow by him without him blocking for once.
"Home of the Professionals" Moment of the Night: Grading the track in turns 1 and 2 when it didn't need it at all after the heats. I guess they'll do this (and anything) to enhance the beer/concession stand sales.
Mulligan Moment:.To Mark Dobmeier deciding to run Grand Forks for 2 nights and $1200 to win each night instead of step it up with the boys, that he's actually beat before. Look, we all know you can't qualify when it comes to big boys at Huset's, but atleast put your dukes up when they come to town. The Report is very disappointed in backing you all year and then having you no show for the last WoO show.
Head Scratcher: To the pathetic car count of 28, compared to the 38 for the exact date last year with the Outlaws.
Thumbs Up: Again to having Shawn Neisteadt hold the infield reporting. Almost figured Hot Rod would pull one of Big J's 50/50 tickets after last week's announcement to the crowd. I guess it was too good to be true and too good to happen. The Report didn't want the $2000+ and the other $1000 for the other drawings anyway. We'll settle for the huge Knoxville Nationals drawing instead.
Thumbs Down: Joey Saldana is absolute garabage at Huset's. Kasey has to be loving that 16th to 17th charge after tonight. You better win some of big races in this next month, or the #9 may be asking for a new driver coming 2009. Blame it on "trying new stuff" all you want, but you were absolutely slow this year at Huset's.
Prime Mover: Shane Stewart was the KSE Hard Charger coming from 19th to 9th. Also looks like Pittman was another key mover coming from 21st to 12th in the feature. Good to see him actually make a feature in the last few weeks here in SD without having a bitch-fit (ie Wayne Johnson).
Trophy Queen Grade: Looked pretty good, but the Report REALLY had to laugh in order for one of the girls to finally make victory lane with a smile on their face for an Outlaw race. LMAO!
Closing Stat of the Night: Waldo continues to run wild after, well, after Waldo runs wild in the pits after the races. Only 33 more days until the Nationals kick off, and only a handful more, hopefully, until a new website is launched for the sake of the Upper Midwest.
