Not even subject to debate - with over 500 WoO wins, and 20 WoO title, the King, Steve Kinser!

I didn't get to see my first sprint car race until 1981, and have been a Steve Kinser fan from that day on. To this day, I don't think anyone has come close to what he has done? I'm Not taking anything away from anyone that has come and gone, or still racing today. But, I still give my vote to Steve!!!

Bob Bennett
The hopeless desire to outrun Bud Grimm's Fords is
why central PA became the toughest place to race on
the planet. Even the KING couldn't run with Casey
Luna's Fords on a tacky track. It's a crying shame
that current car owners failed to notice.

For me, it's a tossup between A.J., Tom Bigelow and Gary Bettenhausen.

My vote goes to A.J. Foyt - the baddest sumbitch to ever strap into a racecar of any type.

You can't beat Steve's stats but Woulfgang And Opperman were awesome before they got hurt. I'm from Iowa so didn't get to see a lot of some of the great ones in other areas. Back in the day Jerry Blundy was one of the best.

If you lived in the west, and went to ASCOT in Gardena you would think of so other names like Dean Thompson, Bubby Jones Mike Shaw. They would NEVER give up. Sad for Dino.

I asked Rick Ferkel a few years ago who is the best driver he ever raced against. Without hesitation he said Jan Opperman. He said things came naturally to him that others have to learn.

As EASports stated, it's impossible to compare eras. But, having said that here's my thoughts:
Jan Opperman
Steve Kinser
AJ
The rest are all just also-rans.
I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

The "Eras" do create an issue here. Also your age can become a problem in answering this. With that said I will say That there was and never has been anybody as good at taking an ill handling car and putting it into victory lane as Jan Opperman. I feel sorry for people that are young fans of this sport and never had a chance to see what this man could do with a race car.
Back in his days it was driver and setup that won races and he made up for a lot of setup problems.
Todays cars are motor and setup, It's pretty rare today that you see a driver carry a ill handling car.
