Crockett Wins Dirt Cup Tune Up

Skagit Speedway Media ~ Kaleb Hart

6/14/08

Alger, WA- Roger Crockett made the most of his first appearance of the year at Skagit Speedway, winning the Dirt Cup Tune Up night. The Outlaw 410 Sprint A Main started with Travis Rutz taking the lead in his Rudeen Racing #26 from his inside pole position with Crockett settling into the two hole in the Omlid & Sweeney Fire & Security #7n. Rutz and Crockett streaked away from the field, with Travis periodically stretching the lead. Every time Rutz stretched, Crockett took his car to a different line on the track and closed the gap. Then on lap 22, with Rutz knee deep in lapped traffic, Crockett found an open line through the top side of turn four and made the definitive pass on Rutz en route to the win. Jason Solwold ran third in the Xtreme Oilfield Technology #39c. Heat race wins went to Jayme Barnes in the Here 2 Wire #9, Seth Bergman in the Corridor Electric #23, Jason Bloodgood in the Big John Motorsports #38 and Barry Martinez in the Artisan Homes #66. Danielle Huson won the B main in the Tri County Truss #73. Rutz was quick time.

Kelsey Carpenter collected win number three for 2008 in the Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprints in his Precious Care 4 U #79k. Carpenter went wheel to wheel with Devin Madonia a number of times during the race, but never surrendered the lead, manning the point for all 20 laps. Madonia, in the Snohomish Valley Roofing #42, had front axle components go sour on him on lap 13, ending his night prematurely. Second place went to veteran Steve James in the Valley Cadillac #29. Third was Paul Burdick in the VB Racing #9. Heat wins went to Burdick and Carpenter.

IMCA Modifieds made their only appearance of 2008 at Skagit Speedway presented by TC Transportation, with Jeff Foster of McClary, WA holding off Scott Dorie of St Helens, OR over the last two laps to take home the feature. 13 modifieds made the trek to the track from various parts of the Northwest, including Yakima, Montesano, Shelton, and Elma and put on a great show for the enthusiastic Skagit Speedway crowd. Heat race wins went to Dorie and Foster.

The Wilson Auto Broker Outlaw Hornet main went down to the last lap, with Ken Higby taking home the win in the #8 machine. Higby had picked his way through the pack, getting just close enough to profit from a Scott Naylor blown tire in turn four of the 17th and final circuit. The win was Higby's second of the season. Naylor crossed the line second, Freddy Vela third.

Join us for the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by Camping World RV of Burlington June 19th, 20th and 21st at Skagit Speedway. Festivities will kick off Wednesday the 18th with the Haggen Food & Pharmacy Dirt Cup Party starting at 3pm. For ticket information, call 360.724.3567 or go to www.skagitspeedway.com
