Alissa Geving gears up for California’s big one, the famed half mile Calistoga Speedway

After 12th place GSC finish Saturday, 16 year old looks forward to second career visit to Napa Fairgrounds

By Bill Sullivan

PENNGROVE, CA (6-9-08) – Last Saturday, Penngrove’s Alissa Geving was in competition at her hometown track of Petaluma Speedway when the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series came to town. Competing with a 360 cubic inch powered engine, Geving was merely maintaining her point lead in the Petaluma Speedway All Pro Series but she managed to charge from 18th to 12th place in the 30 lap feature event aboard the Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises, A1A Muffler sponsored #3x sprint car.

This Saturday, the 16-year-old third generation driver looks forward to returning to the series with which her competitive heart seems to lie,. It’s the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series and its coming to California’s biggest track in the most beautiful town just over the hill from Geving’s hometown , it’s the famed half mile Calistoga Speedway.

“I love running the Civil War Series because I love all of the people,” said Geving, who currently is ranked 11th in the Civil War Series point standings. “ I have truly made some great friendships along the way. I hope everyone has a safe race and a lot of fun this weekend. Let’s go to Calistoga, I’m ready.”

Saturday’s event is the 5th round of the 15 race campaign and it is far from any regular event on the circuit. It takes place on a track that is draped in the beauty of the surrounding NapaValley, a track that is intimidating and dangerous with a history of both triumphs and tragedy. But to everyone in competition, Calistoga Speedway, the dark mistress of California dirt tracks, is a special place to race despite the overwhelming adversities. Saturday will mark just the second time in Geving’s career she will compete at Calistoga and she’s counting the days until she takes the green flag.

In August of 2007, Geving made her big track racing debut at Calistoga Speedway in the late season Civil War event known as the “Napa Valley Challenge.” Just 15-years old at the time, it was during that event that Geving caught the attention of many race fans and gained great respect by her veteran counterparts as she raced wheel to wheel with the best, won the semi-feature and managed a ninth place finish in the feature event.

At the conclusion of that hot August evening, Geving’s success made a clear statement to the Northern California racing population. Her no fear attitude combined with poise and patience placed her in the top ten at a track where many veteran drivers struggle to make the A-feature. It was that night that California learned that the young girl they know as “Chicko” is the real deal and will soon rise to the top in sprint car racing.

"Calistoga was hands down one of the best highlights of the season for me,”said Geving. “ I had so much fun, every bit of that night was a total blast. I got the biggest adrenaline rush I have ever gotten and it felt great testing my luck on the high side. After the A-main I had two flat and bald rear tires, so lets just say I tried to push the car to its limits. I am so excited to return to Calistoga for my second time. This time I will be better at saving my tires and hopefully will be making the main and finishing good.”

Alissa Gevings’ title sponsors include Matt Cordeiro Enterprises, Pit Stop USA, Auto Repairs Unlimited, A1A Muffler and Tillet Tool. Additional sponsors include Parker Stores, KalembasTireCenter, Rossi Auto Body, Afex Graphics, ALC Machine ,21st Century Health Club, Butler Specialties, Vanlare Steering Repair, Jeremy’s Chair Repair Hose Doctor, Spin Tech Mufflers, Fast Lube Plus ALC Machine and Butler Built Safety Seats. I thought Tyler was running for GSC points? Will any of the other GSC regulars that have not ran all of the point races make it to Calistoga?

With GSC being dark it opens up the options. Bud Kaeding, Jason Statler, Tyler Walker, Stephen Allard and Kyle Hirst will all be there. I didn't get a chance to ask Brent if he was or not.

There isn't a GSC race this weekend. They have the weekend off to get ready for Skagit.

I thought they were in Petaluma this weekend but looking at the schedule I see that was last weekend.

See everyone in Calistoga.

Brent doesn't give a "yes" or "no" answer- he just might show up Smile

I think there might be 40 cars! It should be a good race with both Civil War and GSC guys racing together Smile It should also be cooler weather than here in Sacramento!

Heard from somebody today that the 24 team might have decided to head up to Skagit early so I guess we shall see this weekend.
