wear: sunscreen and stay out of the hot sun - clear nights can get chilly

drink: before you go in the gate

take: goggles, bandana , hat, disposable rain poncho and non alky beverages into the track

sit: check wind direction and move upwind of the dust storm

do not eat: pizza burgers - they are not pizza and they are not burgers

plan for the show to end late...

What's there to do? - Spend the days mining the dirt out of your ears from the night before.

What's the best place to eat at? - It doesn't matter, for the following 7 days, everything you eat will be gritty and taste like dirt.

Where's the best place to sit? - In the La-Z-Boy Recliner in your livingroom if it's televised. If it isn't, prey that your seats have the wind to your back.

Where is the best place to sit? If you dont have a ticket you will be sitting way around in turn 1 or 3.

You're gettin' old brother....your list looks like my grandmother's!

OK, so I poke fun at the Posse and their followers...but WTF is with that pizza burger? I'm still waiting for the resumption of firm stools after having eaten but one....three years ago!

Years ago I did a Bloomington USAC sprint week race on the friday before the once grand "royal"-note. the non-capitilized nouns. I made the mistake of going to the royal and bypassing the Saturday USAC speedweek race at TriState. What a mistake. Rick Nichols told me to stay with the "wingless ones" Much better track conditions and more importantly racing.  That was at least three years ago. I thought I'd give eldora one more chance and attended the WOO race last week. What a mistake. My advice Johnson-69x-stay away. Follow the USAC speedweek races or try Fremont or KC if you prefer winged racing. It's easy for me to say, as I've been to Eldora many times in the past, and I can understand if you've never been before, but take the advice of all before me.

JOHNSON, your from the Dakota's area arent you ??

I made the trip to Eldora for the Royal in 2001, sat in Section A same row as the posts. The dirt/dust there was not as bad as Huset's, so dont worry about that .

I was that far from home, so I stayed in INDY so I could tour the speedway. Just watch out for the time zone switch when you come into OHIO

Enjoy your trip

Indy does daylight savings with Ohio now, so there's no issue with the timezone.

And I LIKE the pizza burgers!

Those pizza burgers have never done anything to me remotely like what that fresh snow crab and dungeness crab did to me on my last business trip. I'll take those over shellfish ANY day!

You can still get decent reserved seats in the grandstands, but I wouldn't wait much longer. The party is at the bar on thursday with a dj. The cheeseburgers and chicken wings are excellent and a reasonable price. Make sure to drink a lot of alcohol at the bar, and if you sit in the turns bring goggles.

Do they still have those huge steakburgers out there? They're pretty good.

Pizza burgers are the best! Nothing wrong with the chicken wings either. And get one of the big cookies!

What is there to do? You can always go south on 127 about 10 miles and take a tour of the Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer plant. What could be more exicting than that? Take a trip to Covington, OH to Buffalo Jacks for a good steak (or alligator, or rattlesnake). Go a little further south to Fairborn, OH and visit the Wright Patterson Air Force Museum. It is a great place to visit and, believe it or not, it is absolutely FREE.

Lots to do. It just depends on what you are interested in.

Of course, make sure you get back to the track in time for the race!!

Depends on what you're looking for, Johnson. Party atmosphere, or more contemporary, you can find it all at Eldora. I do recommend a trip into Burketsville to the Wagon Wheel for pizza and their famous Saturday morning breakfast.

Another vote for the pizza burger...

Depending on where you are staying there are things to do. Wright/Patterson Air Force Museum is a must see down around Dayton, the Neil Armstrong Museum is in Wapakoneta too. Many years, I just hung around parking lots in Sidney or Piqua where guys were working on their cars.

The best place to escape dust is the frontstretch as close to the middle as possible. Usually wind is at your back or close to it at that time of year, and the overhang catches some of it as well. Avoid turn three at all costs!

Been awhile since I heard from CoachBob, but I'm sure there is still a mean Hosehead's beanbag tourney going on North of the track on Saturday...
