I wish Sammy still had the drive and ability to find victory lane. What are everyone's thoughts on his lack of success anymore? The old Slammin Sammy would have been on Smoke's bumper one way or the other.
The hopeless desire to outrun Bud Grimm's Fords is
why central PA became the toughest place to race on
the planet. Even the KING couldn't run with Casey
Luna's Fords on a tacky track. It's a crying shame
that current car owners failed to notice.

What happened? I turned 55 in September and can tell you what happens. Age catches up with us, like the country song said, "I'm not as good as I once was but I'm as good once as I always was." Maybe Sammy is saving his "once" for August ;-)

I promise Sammy will never forgot or lose the aliity to find Vitory lane. Just remeber he has nothing to prove. Sammy , Kinser,Wolfgang and many more race for the sport we all love. If it was not for them and many others there would be no racing.

Most are aware that Sammy is more concerned about Kevin's career than his own. I do believe he does want to win any thing he enters as he is a fierce competitor. There was an interesting incident in last nghts second 'C' feature:
Andy Martin, from Gordonville, Pa. had transfered to this feature from the second 'F' feature. During this race he had put a wheel into Sammy. He didn't take Sammy out but he knocked him off pace a little. Shortly after, a yellow had come out. Sammy then drove around just under a little less than half the track to find Martin and rammed him in the rear. Both cars stopped in turn one with Sammy damaging his front end to the point he was done.
Martin was placed at the rear of the field. Many of us had thought based on what Sammy did, he should have been placed in his position prior to Sammy's actions. Race went back to green then another yellow. It was at that time that it was announced that Martin would get to transfer regardless of where he finished. The crowd applauded with approval. As it turned out, Martin transfered to the 'B' on his own anyway and Sammy was left in the pits with a broken car.
Just another saga in the trials and trivalations of Mr. Sammy Swindell.

On the webcast, it initially sounded like Swindell had hit (or been hit by) a safety vehicle and I never did get a really clear explanation from RacinBoys on what happened.
I don't care how great you are, 'Headhunting' on track during a yellow is idiotic behavior.
The saga continues...

You figure sammy has raced for some thirty five or so years and because of good financial decisions he can pick and chose when he races and where he races as well as for whom he drives. That would be so cool. With kevin driving for kasey kahne sammy can go and just watch if that is what he wants to do. I wish it was me. I would love to see him race for a couple more years, but he does not have to races fulltime ever again.

I can't speak for the web cast as I wasn't listening as I was at the track. I can only say what 10,000 plus of us saw.

You're correct, he didn't knock him out but another car did. Spun him sideways and he had to be pushed and was on his way to the back. Once he was pushed he went after the 21. Guess he'd rather tear up a front end than start over from the back.

I think Sammy forgot how he got the nickname "Slammin Sammy" he said it all in the interview "young guys trying to make a name for themselfs"....I like Sammy, always have. Do you think he might have seen himself in those boys and didn't like what he saw?..... Just a thought.

i think Sammy is concentrating on other things and enjoying life -----good for him----but that doesn't't change the fact that i think he is a snivelling finger pointing little sissy-----i will and do support any race car driver with the exception of Mr Swindell

Sammy hasn't run out of drive - Sammy's car was not running right. It was dying in the corners. Another car had already run over Sammy's right rear and flipped. I don't know Andy Martin, but I bet he wasn't expecting Sammy to park in the
turn and be there when he got there. Besides - it was nothing that we haven't all seen Sammy do 100 times.
As I said - Sammy's car was dying out on him. I really feel that was the why he got hit twice. I didn't see Martin hit anyone else on his way through the field. That's the way most drivers advance at the Chili Bowl, but I don't remember that last night. Guess we'll have to wait for the video
The announcers should have picked up on Sammy's car quiting on him. But then, they didn't even know which drivers were male and which were female (at least the guy from Knoxville didn't bother to do that research). I don't know if you had different announcers for the web cast or not.

You might be able to call Sammy a lot of names and some of them may even be true ,but sissy? mmmmmmmm maybe you have more experience with that word than me.

Everyone seems to think Sprint Car drivers are immune from growing old and their favorites are never going to slow down. Maybe I should take up driving one of those things.

There were a lot of drivers driving like idiots last night (21, 86c and 11) in the race mentioned above. The 21 had been drilling people all day and Sammy evidently got tired of it and drilled the 21 under caution then walked over to him to "educate" him a bit. Sammy got a standing ovation from the end of the frontstretch after he was DQed.
I also found it ironic that moments later under another caution that the 86c tried to take out the 11 in the same fashion as Sammy, but STALLED HIS CAR in the process!!! It was hilarious.
I think it is time to address the rough driving that has been getting worse and worse each year. I've been to 16 Chili Bowls now and it is getting rediculous.

Hawker I think Swindell was getting booed more for the little half-punch/head shove he gave the guy. I would have felt differently about it had they BOTH been outside of their cars. but 21 was still strapped into his ready to go. It was a bonehead move by Swindell no matter how you slice it..........and now his son Kevin is driving for the biggest pussy in the field Saturday, Kasey Kahne. And that really sucks.........Kasey Kahne was the only napcar driver I really liked anymore.......cheered for him whenever I got the chance. But I don't care what the circumstances were saturday. He's a chicken shit.

I don't know where you were at on Saturday night, but it was not at the same Expo Center the rest of us were at. Carol is absolutly right, Sammys car was stalling in the middle of the turn and he should have only expected what he has dealt out over his entire career. Andy Martin was only a victim of Sammy's hissy fit. And as for the "Standing Ovation", pull your head out and realize that it was the result of of the DQ and not and not Sammys sissy slap at a belted in racer who only had the same goal as every other driver in the field (except Kahne). I would also like to give a big Kudos to Andy Martin for transfering to the B main using his own talent instead of the free pass rightly given by the officials for for the unfortunate actions of an over-egoed Sammy Swindell.

Why be so hard on Kasey for not running Saturday? I read somewhere last week that he had said in an interview that making the trip to Austrailia was a big mistake because of all of the obligations he had here in the states. He even spent Christmas there. I don't know when he got to Tulsa but I assume he flew in directly from down under. He's been non-stop for weeks, didn't qualify well (possibly due to jetlag etc.). What was he to gain by running Saturday? He did fullfill his commenment to the autograph session on Friday. He needed and deserved some free time for himself and family. He's a young man probably overwhelmed with all that is expected of him, give the boy a break!

Gee I remember hearing how a certain driver slapped Ray Bull still in his car two years ago. Maybe you could say karma got him the following year if you believe in that sort of stuff.
