Can't figure out who to root for in the "500?" Well, there's two drivers who have run at SFS, Tulsa, and Lawton in the starting field, and neither of them run for Penske or Ganassi....big surprise there, eh? Could make this a trivia question, but why bother.....it's Sarah Fisher, who came through with the WOO....won a heat race at SFS, I recall.....and John Andretti. Back in the early 80's he came through with the CRA, running non-winged sprints. Ran mid-pack at SFS, then nearly killed himself at Lawton. A few years ago I got to chat with him and Rutherford at Texas, and they both remember SFS the same way...."that's the place with the end of the fence right in the middle of your entry to turn one...." Nice to be remembered fondly, isn't it? Here's hoping John and Sarah both run the full 500 miles and take home some big bucks. wink

Galen didnt Fisher run with the All Stars when they came through instead of WOO? She was sponsored by Mead.

Catpuppy, you're probably right.....it was possibly the NCRA/All Star series. I'll have to find the photos and see who else was there. She did run with the WOO at times, but this may not have been the time or place. Hmmmmm.

Andretti was here in '87. He was teamed with Noffsinger. I was there at Lawton that night.

Other names present were, Bubby Jones, Eddie Wirth, Bob Meli?,Leland McSpadden.

I have to go with Danica. 3 top tens in 3 years. 2 of those in the top 5.

The field is not as tough as it used to be, but then she is not just another driver. As a rule, if Indianapolis is good to you, you can pretty well suck everywhere else!

Sarah was running with the All-Stars at the time. She was our host David's sweetheart that week. She is a classy, talented young lady that would have collected more than just one win in the IRL had she been on one of the big teams.

For my money, John is one of the most unsung drivers in history. I know he has a reputation as a crasher in NASCAR but not a lot of other drivers have a pedigree that includes:

1 CART win, 1NASCAR cup win, 24 Hours of Daytona win, four top tens in eight Indy 500 starts, sprint cars, Silver Crown and, oh yeah, a runner-up finish in NHRA top fuel.

John is a heck of a nice guy too. I remember talking to him at the SEMA Show back in the mid-90's and he had to tell me a story about his appearance at the NCRA/USAC show in '85 or '86. I recalled he was driving for Beth Jones and he couldn't wait to finish the tale. He said it was so hot and humid that he nearly passed out before hot laps and had to lay under the shade of the trailer to beat the heat. He said he thought he was gonna die.

John is my favorite Andretti.

My 500 pick is Castroneves, hard to bet against Penske at the Brickyard. Longshot is Tomas Scheckter.

There is an open invitation to the winner of the 500 to race at the prelude to the dream race next week.

That would legitimize the winner as a real race car driver if they made the 'A' on performance. Doubt it will happen though.

I'll take Dixon! Smile (20 to go) I'd like to see Marco win, but I was hoping to see the milk flowing down Danica's face, too. She's not a happy camper now, tho. Good race. Always a lot of drama at Indy!
