Rusty Carlile Did a great job leading the race on the high line, he got caught up with lap traffic and the the others were able to run on the bottom for the pass. Great job Rusty.

Had planned on going to Santa Maria on May 3rd for their next Bandit show, but i think i will pass on it after seeing that only 16 cars showed this past Saturday. Think i will go to Ventura instead.

I was hoping that writer Gary Costa was going to write for the Bandit series. They sure could use the press!

Rad My Friend, of course Peter can be beat. He is human and puts his pants on one leg at a time as they say. Richard VanderWeerd did that Saturday. That being said, he is a top fight racer who is on his game all the time. Just like Tiger Woods in golf, you need to bring your A game. But thats good for everyone else because that helps everyone else get better, right.

Peter has a car owner who wants to win, and crew that wants to win and they have their act together. And further, Peter is a great ambasador for this sport we care for. Peter can be beat, but, you need to bring your A game.

One question: They say Tiger has a 1 stroke advantage to every tournament he enters- Does Peter share a similar advantage with our sprint cars?

Bobby, Gary Costa is a great guy and I am hoping we can work it out. He would be a tremendous benefit, I am sure you would agree.

Oakhurst, we'd love to have you, but I understand. I have to say, the quality of the racing was great but with travel costs and what appears to be local economic situation some cars are slow to come out. Keep up on the deal and let me know if you are coming. I'd love to meet you. Gary Costa told me you are a pretty cool race fan.

In the mean time, are you going to Kings Friday night?

Rusty did do agreat job espeially after the tumble at Kings Speedway. He has been one of the guys that needs a break to go his way to get into victory lane, then I think he is capable of putting together a string of victories. Rusty is dedicated, fast and serious, he has what it takes in my opinion to win.

Agreed Mr. Curto, he can be beat. Lol, I misread your results, and I thought Mr. Murphy had won; It turns out I was looking at the point standings. However, I have noticed that the Tarlton team is on fire this year with their different cars. Question Mr. Curto: Why doesn't Tarlton put together a 410 non-wing sprinter, and come down south and run at the PAS? God knows he has the money, he runs with practically every other series in California. It would be interesting to see how Mr. Murphy, or Tarlton for that matter, measures up. Just an idea, what do you think Mr. Curto?

Rob,

Thank you for your inquiry in regards to Peter Murphy and Tarlton Motorsports. Mr. Tarlton and Peter have indeed raced down South with a non-wing 410 on occasion. The results were not up to our standards, but we are looking to improve on them.

It is tough to commit to running with the USAC/CRA due to business commitments both by Peter and Mr. Tarlton.

However, when we are down there again, please don't hesitate to stop by and introduce yourself.

Again, thank you for your question(s).

Your friend in racing, Gary Costa

Mr. Costa, Thank you for such a timely response. Please do let us know when Team Tarlton plans to make the trip down south. It would be great to get a chance to see them run here. Have a great day.

Rad, Please call me Pete or Peter, I appreciate the respect but like to be more informal.

Gary 'splained it very well, correct? One thing Peter Murphy does bring also with his experience is his mentoring. He is very sociable and talks with newer and younger drivers. That is a clear benifit to everyone. A few years down the line, I hope to see Sheridan, Pombo among others doing the same.

My reply would be that they are entirely capable. But, there seems to be an adjustment period. Dominant Bandit and VRA 360 drivers are capable but there evidently is a learning curve. Danny Sheridan, Davey Pombo, Josh Ford and others have not achieved instant stardom but even presnet stars like Rip Willians had their own adjustment periods. Very few show up with a team and go right to victory lane.

Even an experienced veteran with success on the Outlaw tour, Golden State Challenge, Grand Slam, Bandit, VRA, SCRA and more prove that it is also a team thing.

That said, I believe there are many 360 drivers that are capable but will need an adjustment period should they head that direction.

The higher supposed level of competition aside ---two missing ingredients are also the fun factor and the factor of proximity. The more serious the competition the level of fun seems to be an inverse proportion. I am told from some that race with USAC-CRA they had more "fun" doing the Saterday Night Bandit racing, then a bbq and beer with friends and fans.

People race to have fun, and to the extent that they can- they do. Also, the proximity to "home" has to be a consideration too. Travel time and cost does effect where people choose to race.

Just my opinion and take on the deal.

Peter

Mr. Costa, with the recent announcement of the second open competition in Victorville on May 31, can we expect to see Team Tarlton there? If the purses remain the same, I believe it is an extra grand to win in a 360. According to what Peter Curto said, the Bandits are running that night at Kings Speedway, but do you think they will at least consider it? I could possibly see this upcoming event at Victorville as being a shootout between the best drivers in California and Arizona. Thank you for your time Mr. Costa, have a great day.

Trip,

Yes there is as a matter of fact. It was covered during a meeting with drivers this past Sat. night that the series is close to a series sponsor and other related to have a point fund once again. Announcement to be made at a later date.

Also, an Advisory Commitee was wet up to help cover issues that come up. Veterens of this series Davey Knott (Fresno), Rusty Carlile (Bakersfield) and Jayson May (Coast) are guys that will help in the forward direction we are heading. They are all knowledgable and have been participating for many seasons so they have a great idea of where they want this deal to go.

Pete

Great news! Hopefully the car count will increase with the addition of a series sponsor and a point fund. Thank you for your response.

Yes it is great news. But the car count is reflective of many factors other than point fund. I think the point fund should reward the effort and participation of the weekly racers. Thats what I am happy about.

I feel the car count will increase with the economy, putting on great races and just plain getting some of the cars outta the garages and racing. Even last years Bandit Champion Jesse Mack is on a limited schedule as they just started a new business and dad Jerry has been sidelined a bit. It will be up and growing again soon. No worries as our friend would say...

Bob and Matt,

I know you guys run a limited schedule but it is a pleasure to have you all at Bakersfield races, it was a good time. Maybe we'll see you at some other events too. Like they say, I can dig it...but the real proof is in the deeds not the words, right?

We as a crew are working hard for the forward bite in this series as the teams drive this series while keeping up the cornering speed as head down the front shute...LOL, alittle hokie but you get the picture...

Guys, I know you have input, get with Rusty or Jayson in your area and help make this series better. Its an honest opportunity.

Pete
