Wow...saw the results from the USAC Western States Sprint Series. Shane is making a comeback. Good for him.

He also won the last two BCRA midget races on asphalt. If Nascar won't take him, maybe he can climb the ranks of sprints cars like Tyler Walker. I still can't believe Nascar drug tested him when he was a spectator at a race .... he wasn't even driving that weekend.

Coming up:
Oct 17th - Ocean Speedway: WOO
Oct 18th - Tulare Thunderbowl: WOO
Oct 30-31st - Perris Speedway: USAC Bud Oval Nationals

I always thought the problem was that he was on drugs. Bottom line, all that happened in the past and the more that people bring it up, the longer it will take for him to get past that stigma that he has attached to him.

Excellent article on drugs and testing in Nascar and other motorsports this week in ESPN magazine. It might give you some insight into the situation with Fike, Hmiel, Walker, Tim Richmond, and the testing procedures and policies in place.

Well if USAC will let him run (with his past history) good for them. NOT!!! Did Shane run sober? Or was he loaded? Who knows! Do you suppose if "his" name was "Bill Smith or Bob Anderson" he would get the same treatment? I think not! It's time the racing community (nascar all the way down) gets up to speed with the DRUG ISSUES! Who wants to race against a guy who is under the influence?

Do you know this for sure? I THINK NOT! I was there, in the pits, and observed and talked to Shane that night, and he was NOT loaded, or high or anything else. He was focused, and ready to race (which he did very well, I might add), so unless you know the facts, quit spouting nonsense out of your piehole!

USAC has made a valiant effort to implement a harsh drug policy for all of the drivers. It is as close to a no tolerance policy that any sport will ever touch. Rumor is Hmiel is tested when he gets to the track.

If he wasn't clean, I don't think he'd be winning like he has been.
The proof is in the performance.
Now, if he wasn't winning and he was "going off"(acting erratic) on the officials and etc., he may be suspect.
It's impressive to me to see someone jump into a midget or sprint and have success. I don't know Shane's racing background, but he has talent.

Not only should we ban folks who get busted for using drugs but alcohol too. They should be banned for life if they are caught with drugs or alcohol in their system anytime during the racing season. And they should be tested daily. First piss of the morning. This should go for all sports.
Actually they should take it a step further and apply to every one in the U.S. Get caught driving under the influence and you have your license revoked for life. In one swoop you could solve a whole lot of traffic fatalities and global warming. Get caught with illegal drugs your citizenship gets revoked for life and you have to leave the country.
Sarcasm off now.

I would say take he junkies and send them to Antarctica

There are a lot of completely sober idiots who should lose their license AND (in most cases) their citizenship that are just as dangerous as anyone driving under the influence of anything. I'm not saying it's OK to drive under the influence but lets get to the root cause: Make it HARDER to GET a DRIVERS License! Raise the value of the damned thing and the stakes involved with keeping it. Let's face it - a drivers license is practically a birthright any more which is complete B.S. The deficit in many states could be elminated in a matter of a month if our entire nation's police force were dedicated to handing out tickets for "California Stops" alone. Seriously! Another thing: They always announce when various "hunting" seasons start and end. You know - deer season, elk season, etc, etc. When does "idiot season" begin? Just curious.....

I was being sarcastic but you did get my point. Anyway, if they were truly concerned about safety there would be cameras on every street corner and overpass sending you tickets for breaking the law. Folks driving without a license would be keeping the streets and highways clean. And all revenue generated from the tickets would be spent on road repair and construction.
Alternatively they could just put a big f'in spike in the middle of the steering wheel that deployed with the airbag.

Damn people give the dude a break. There's child molesters, rapists, 8 time drunken drivers and a lot of criminals out there getting 2nd 3rd 4th chances, why doesn't he deserve a few. I think its all the more impressive these guys can run circles around the competition half baked! Racers are like rockstars and now you want them to be born again cristians. Our country is in the worst shape its been in a very long time and you people want to diss a guy who's doing what he's got to do to get back to the top. Start drug testing politicians, cops, priests, and whomever else is supposed to be a stand up citizen and you'll really see shit hit the fan!

t-dub, go back and re-read my post. I did not accuse Shane of winning under the influence the other night, I was just questioning if he was or not. Shane was banned for LIFE by Nascar for failing more than one drug test so his past history is not really in his favor. I am not "spouting nonsense out of my piehole" here, just the facts man!

Just to bring up another pet peeve - has nothing to do with Shane - but in Texas you can get a drivers license without being able to speak or read English. Well - I bet the Orientals and Europeans have to read and speak English - but not the Mexicans. Grrrr.
