Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing confirmed yesterday that former ChampCar driver Christiano de Matta will partner with former Morgan Hill resident Jimmy Vasser in the Daytona Prototype class. The email I got from the team is that they expect to have fundingsponsorship in place by then to run the pairing the rest of the 2008 season. There is a really good story and video on the SPEED website. Awesome news for de Matta after hitting a deer during practice at Elkhart Lake and suffering major head injuries. de Matta opened his test drive at a Texas road course with "an NHRA quality burn out" LOL!
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool,
but then I'm not 16 so therefore my opinion is of no
consequence...

Boy I can see this becoming a HUGE thread given its sprint car racing related content :-).....There are actually two interesting things about it though: 1. Those of us without the latest decoder ring can read / understand it. 2. I'm not familiar with the incident but it's incredible and awful all at the same time that this guy hit a deer while in a racecar with presumably all the requisite safety gear but still received injuries that severe. Sounds like a lucky guy and is a stud - sprint driver or not.

To hit a deer in a open cockpit type car and still be alive is pretty incredible. Just glad this guy is able to continue in doing what he loves to do. Race a car!
