Thanks for the amusement on a rainy Thursday morning in the nearly sprintless Sunshine State.

Great article Kevin.....we need to work on your anger management issues against the Turnpike though. wink

By the way, Pittman is going to a 360 race at OKC this weekend. WTF?

Man, the names of Koletar, Baltimore Bill and Rauser are three reasons I could get back into this bizness, if I wasn't so tired. No better place to spend a weekend without having to travel than Central PA, the true home of sprint car racing. Once again, thanks for sharing Kev. Take It Easy......

Wow. Just wow. LOL

What an awesome column, Kevin. So many great stories and tidbits. Love when you can work some Northeast Modified references into the column. Also enjoyed the line about Jack Gunn telling Ted Johnson that the "Welcome to Ohio" sign was sure gonna look good to that Kinser kid. Also loved the point about Rahmer giving the most profane Victory Lane interviews in the country. LOL

On a weekend when gasoline ranged from 3.18 to 3.29 per gallon (Texas oil men do rule), benefits of traveling partners are painfully obvious. Yet in other ways, I prefer to go alone. I do not have to explain my interstate aversion as I traverse the backroads. I do not have to hear someone tell me how I should have turned left rather than right. I can listen to any music (or none at all) without explaining it to anyone. I can stop anywhere to eat without putting it to a vote. Granted, there are times when I see something cool or funny and wish someone was there to share it. But those times are rare.

Man, I agree with this right down to the very end. I like to go solo at least once for every few times I go with someone else or a group. it happens less and less these days - but aside from going up goin to the track - in about 1999 when I was 17 I kinda started to get back into goin' to races. even though the rest of my family was inable for various reasons. I took off to Lawton Speedway here in Oklahoma 1 night and there were really bad storms all around it. headin straight for the track. these days the same thing could happen and I wouldn't go. But I kept goin' down there - and somehow the storms barely broke their line and it onlyt sprinkled at the track. that night kinda opened sprint car racin' back up to me but in a different way than growing up. maybe I realized there was nothing stoppong from going wherever I wanted and do whatever I wanted (I was 17). But ever since than - I love going to races solo every so often. it's almost like meditation in some strange way.

The usual Rahmer Victory Lane interview is even money to contain at least one four-letter word, and sometimes more than one. Rahmer on the microphone is always worth listening to. In addition to being the best driver in central PA over the past 20 years, Rahmer has always been the best interview in the area as well. Last week's interview after winning Lincoln contained two excerpts worthy of a seven-second delay.

Rahmer said winning in the daytime "don't mean shit" because the track is totally different than how it is at night. Rahmer also said Chad Layton is going to be a major factor in PA racing this year because Layton "really has his shit together."

This is in addition to the familar Rahmer Victory Lane quotes about "driving the shit out of the car" after any especially difficult victory or "getting our ass waxed" the past few races/weeks when in the middle of a slump. LOL

So you're a shunpiker who doesn't trust the weather channel and likes beer? You're not alone on that one. wink
