360s: FT: Ford (in the low 17s). A Main: Sheridan, Johnson, Ford. Showtime led almost all the way with R.J. snapping at his heels. The 410 A Main that followed looked like it was going to go the same way for awhile.

410s: FT: Kruser (the only one under 17). B Main: Jones. A Main: Kruser, Spencer, Miller, Sheridan, Johnson, Hansen. Sheridan held Miller (in a nice blue repaint of last year's red Gardner 93) off much of the way after a 3rd lap restart.

Rip was snagged by another car at that point and flipped hard fifty yards ahead of the flag stand. It took him quite awhile to climb out, and when he did, it was evident his foot was hurting pretty badly, though the ambulance did not take him off the premises.

Kruser pressed from 8th to 3rd, then suddenly roared past Miller and Showtime on the 26th lap. Sheridan dropped back several spots as Spencer also shot past him and Miller. Hansen drove the yellow Priestley 7. Chad Boat ran well early on in the blue and white 30.

There were 35 410s and 24 360s. The 360s put on an excellent show throughout. Jesse Hockett drove a 360.

The track was a little dry owing to a mostly northeast to southwest breeze until part way into the A Main. The stands weren't real full, but the pits were jammed.

For those attending Saturday: Yes, mama, it was chilly, but it wasn't Turkey Night at Oildale in a tule fog.

A few observations and random thoughts:

1. I (unofficially) counted 38 410s and 23 360s.

2. John Aiden (sp?) was incredible to watch in the 360 main! Someone loan him a 410.

3. Jesse Hockett, Danny Sheridan, R.J. Johnson, and Eric Severson all did double duty tonight.

4. Nice to see Peter Murphy, Brent Mellenbent (sp?), Levi Jones, Cole Whitt, Brady Bacon, Chris D'Arcy, and a bunch of other travelers (including the 360 bunch) make the trip to race tonight.

5. Chad Boat was impressive...can't wait to see him blossom during the National circuit this year.

6. Rip may have broken his foot (hope not). Something came through the floor pan during the accident.

7. Blake Miller's beautiful new Black Widow No. 93 Okie was definitely not a repaint of last year's car...but instead a much different creation! Pretty darn successful right out of the box, too!

8. Track sure changed a bunch tonight...a bit too much for some teams to keep up with...

9. I was glad to be home by 11:00 tonight...during the 360 main I got worried for a while...

10. I thought Danny was gonna bag both mains. He sure didn't need the late cautions...I wonder if something went away in the closing laps. Bummer.

11. Tony Jones had a flat left rear put him out towards the end.

12. Jordan Hermansader missed the show by one spot in the B-Main. That is pretty incredible, given the fact that Dan Hillberg called him Monday and asked if he was available to drive the new No. 32 that he had never seen before, much less been fitted into!

13. Never count out Cory Kruseman! Gotta see those last few laps again on tape.

14. Hope the problem that Bacon had in Cheney's No. 42 wasn't terminal.

15. Sure wish I had a microphone in hand tonight with Billy Boat in attendence. I would have loved to interview the guy that won Turkey Night at Perris and who also sat on the pole for the Indy 500, after dominating the West Coast midget scene for a while. That guy was amazing on dirt!

Billy Boat also set a new track record of 17.958 in Bruce Bromme's Sprinter at the last show at Ascot, the only 17 ever run there.....He won it too. Oh heck, you guys know that.

No doubt in my mind who would take the rookie Honor's if Chad stuck around.

I hope Rip is ok but i fear the worst for him as word was that his left foot was broken. It was not a violent flip and was strictly a racing incident between him and "Showtime" (not really sure that it was Sheridan). His flip was just before the flag stand and as he came out of the car it was very apparent that he was in alot of pain. It is really to bad because he had the Jory #3 really working tonight. It was a very good opening night with our west coast guys putting it to the midwest travelers Levi Jones, Brady Bacon and Jesse Hocket. Tyler Brown was impressive driving for the Gardner team as was a hard driving Blake Miller. It was a good night of racing with the expected cold (we dressed for it so it wasn't to bad) and it was to bad about the poor Friday night turnout. I enjoyed myself and hats off to the PAS for trying something new for the race fans with the 360s. I belive they (PAS) go out of their way so that fans can enjoy a night at the races. Maybe more cars tommorow.
