I heard from a guy in Australia that I know that Tony Stewart bought 12 Hawk motors for race cars. Is this true?

Nope, not true. Hawks have wings but no motors much like eagles who have chassis but no motors. Now get off your asphalt and in the dirt!

I don't think Tony is buying any motors...I'm sure Chevy is supplying him with all the motors he needs.

From the previous press release:

Chevrolet will serve as the primary sponsor and engine supplier for all of TSR's USAC teams, with Bass Pro Shops carrying on as an associate sponsor. For the No. 20 Winged Sprint car in the World of Outlaws, Chevrolet will also provide engines while serving as an associate sponsor. Bass Pro Shops will maintain its role as the team's primary sponsor.

Are running WESMARS a bad thing? They seem reliable to me and make tons of HP from what I've witnessed.

Im , not for sure how many engines they bought, BUT Steve Smith ( from Australia) of Hawk Engine Development is providing the midget motors for Tony Stewart's Midget Team.

The Sprint Car motors will be coming from Kistler.
