On the subject of Direct TV. Does anybody know if PPV brodcasts are recordable to a DVR? I'd love to record 5hrs of Chili Bowl action for later viewing.

HD or not, the chance to watch the Chili Bowl LIVE is worth a measely 25.00 since I can't be there in person. Invite a few friends over to split the cost, have a BBQ, drink a few beers, and show your support!!! JMO

I used to watch the jalopy's on KTLA channel 5 as a kid in Torrance, Dick Lane was the announcer. Heck, I'd pay $25 to watch reruns of those in black and white...LOL Whoooo Nely
Anyone remember those? They were probably right after wresting..not much on in those days.

They had to have started earlier than that because I moved to Phoenix for the first time in 56 when I was 10.

Those Sunday Jalopy races were at Carrell Speedway and Gardena in the 1950's. Why do I say because my family owned a Jalopy which we raced during this period. Bud Astry was our driver car #108. This was when Parnelli started racing. Yes, it would be fun to see all those old tapes of Jalopies. Wonder if they are sitting around somewhere?

Yep, that's the tracks all right. When I came back in 63 the freeway had cut right through the middle of Carrell. At that time you could still see the outlines of turnes3 and four off to the side.
You must remember Dick lane then.

That's no problem. I'm a lucky man to have been where I was, when I was. I have seen the best and going back and forth from Az to Cal it was Ascot and Manzy and the Champ cars at the old fairgrounds. When I lived in other states I could say they were my home tracks.. It doesen't get much better than that. See you at the Copper on dirt............. Kenny

In addition, it would be nice to know the details of that photo! It has instantly become my favorite racing picture of all time!

Great! He was no slouch himself that's for sure. I think maybe 2 or 3 people from the forums thought it was Roger but I guess it's not.
