Congratulations to 16 year old Alissa Geving who has been nominated for the Northern California Rising Star Award. Alissa won 4 feature main events in her rookie year in her 360 Sprint Car. Alissa would also become the youngest female to win a winged sprint car race at the age of 15. She would earn Rookie of the year at Petaluma and Antioch Speedway. Finishing 6th in points at Petaluma and 2nd in points at Antioch Speedway. When Alissa isn't racing her Sprint Car she is keeping her 4.3 GPA up taking Honors classes and excelling in Physics. Alissa plans to run Civil War full time in 2008. Other nominees for the Rising Star award are Alissa's best friends Kyle Larson and Mason Moore.... Good luck to everyone!!!!

I would for sure think that Shane is a nominee....... I didn't see all of them. It is for the young racers like 16 years of age. Shane is a great driver he should be up for it for sure!!!!

I watched Shane this year and he was real smooth and not a hazard unlike some rookies this season.

Tim - It is an award given by the MSPA (Motorsports Press Association). Each year the MSPA nominates and votes for drivers, promotors, car owners in different catagories here in Northern California. Media members nominate who they feel is deserving of the award. If it is agreed upon then they are put on the ballot and voted by all MSPA members. The winners are ussually announced in February just before the awards banquet. There website is www.mspaonline.com The nomination process and who is nominated is not posted on the website and is generally not considered for public announcement.
Feel free to give me a call, 707-803-3629, if you have any other questions. If I can not answer them I can at least put you in touch with someone who can.
John

wtf? how do you know if you won? does the award fairy come in the dead of night whisper in your ear that you won and put a trophy up your ass and leave a note on your pillow saying not to tell anyone?

Steve - The winners are announced and generally posted on the mspaonline.com website. Additionally, the winners are requested to come to the awards banquet in March. where they are given their award and an opportunity to speak to those gathered.
Al was a member of this group long before I was. Maybe he can offer more insight on the history. Altenatively, you could email the president.

I don't see that any of the rookies were hazards........ They all looked great most of them coming from dirt outlaw karts getting the best experience before jumping into Sprint cars. There were a lot of rookies this year and they all were very impressive. Good luck in 08!!!
